Chapter 195: Are You Two Really Not Living Together?

As the online comments spiraled further into absurdity, Lin Tian put away his phone. He knew from the moment he chose to reveal his identity that peace and quiet would be a distant memory for the foreseeable future.

The idea of filming another video, though… That was worth considering. After all, while he'd admitted his identity to the press, there was still no official interaction with fans—no face-to-face acknowledgment beyond what would eventually come via Weibo's announcement. A new video where both he and Gan Yanyu appeared on camera could serve as a fun way to connect with their audience while capitalizing on the current buzz.

It wouldn’t take much effort—just answering some fan questions together—but it would undoubtedly generate significant attention. Their last Q&A had been simple yet wildly successful, racking up views and even trending on TikTok. With both of them showing their faces this time, the impact would likely be even greater.

Still, Lin Tian decided to hold off for now. He’d let things settle before broaching the topic with Miss Gan. For now, he resolved to let the chaos simmer down.

---

The next morning, Lin Tian woke up and checked his phone. The first notification waiting for him was the latest The Parrot Cello Contest player rankings released by various media outlets. While the revelation about "Moonlight and Cat" had caused quite a stir online, Lin Tian knew these were merely side stories. His focus remained squarely on the competition.

1st Place (Tie): Gan Yanyu, Bai Xi - 1031 Points
2nd Place: Christine Nanali - 968 Points
3rd Place: Yun Qiuqiu - 945 Points

The semifinal results sparked heated discussions across the music community. What surprised everyone most was how the media “conveniently” placed Gan Yanyu and Bai Xi in a tie for first place during the third—and arguably most anticipated—round. It felt like an attempt to avoid responsibility. Given the heightened interest in the contest, declaring either one outright winner risked backlash if they failed to deliver in the finals.

To Lin Tian, this decision made sense. Both competitors were formidable contenders. On one side stood Bai Xi, who had breezed through every match without breaking a sweat—a seasoned champion with years of accolades under her belt. On the other was Gan Yanyu, whose journey had been anything but smooth. Her reputation had seesawed multiple times throughout the tournament, leaving journalists hesitant to bet on her until the very end.

If nothing else, Bai Xi represented the toughest opponent Lin Tian and Gan Yanyu had faced since entering the competition. Initially, Lin Tian believed provincial-level contests would pose little challenge for Gan Yanyu; at worst, she might encounter a few minor obstacles before cruising to victory. But meeting someone like Bai Xi—a bona fide boss-level rival—at such an early stage was unexpected. At just 23 years old, Bai Xi carried herself with eccentric confidence, her motivations inscrutable despite her outward charm. Even after defeating Gan Yanyu outright during The Starlight Cup, Lin Tian still couldn’t fully grasp her character.

This only reinforced Gao Zhenyang’s earlier observation: none of these so-called prodigies were “normal.” Every single one of them was a monster in their own right. And so, Lin Tian resolved to approach the finals with utmost seriousness.

---

Speaking of Gan Yanyu…

Lin Tian had a lingering question about her recent behavior. Though she had grown immensely, reaching a level that filled him with pride, he couldn’t shake the feeling that she mentioned her transformation far too often. Did people really need to repeatedly remind others—or themselves—that they’ve changed or improved? Was this merely psychological reinforcement?

When Lin Tian asked Gan Yanyu directly, she simply replied with a coy “You guess.” Regardless of her methods, however, the fact remained: she had overcome her stage fright. For that alone, Lin Tian was satisfied.

---

That evening, Lin Tian prepared a feast, eagerly awaiting Gan Yanyu’s arrival. The previous day’s post-semifinal chaos outside the concert hall had left him unable to fulfill his promise of taking her out for pudding. Instead, he proposed a compromise: hosting a celebratory dinner at his apartment, complete with dessert afterward.

“Wow, it smells amazing,” Gan Yanyu exclaimed as she entered, quickly shedding her shoes and making her way to the dining table. Seeing the spread laid out before her, she widened her eyes in surprise. “Is this our last supper?”

“No,” Lin Tian chuckled, setting plates and utensils on the table. “He Zhichen is joining us later. He has something to discuss, so I figured we’d kill two birds with one stone—a celebration and a meeting.”

Living alone for years, Lin Tian valued moments of ritual. Without them, life could feel suffocating. Hosting celebratory dinners after each competition had become one of his cherished traditions—a rare indulgence he refused to abandon.

Before long, the doorbell rang.

“Ding-dong!”

Gan Yanyu opened the door to find He Zhichen standing there in a sharp suit. “Sorry to intrude,” he said, adjusting his tie nervously.

“You dressed up for this?” Lin Tian teased, glancing at He Zhichen’s formal attire compared to his own casual shorts and Gan Yanyu’s floral dress. The man looked more like a door-to-door insurance salesman than a guest at a private dinner.

“It’s my first visit. I thought I should dress appropriately,” He Zhichen explained with a polite smile. Glancing around the modest apartment, he marveled at its cleanliness. “Should I change into slippers?”

“Wait a sec,” Gan Yanyu interjected, opening the shoe cabinet deftly. She pulled out a pair of blue cotton slippers from the second shelf and turned to Lin Tian. “Can Mr. He wear these?”

“Sure, you don’t need to ask me about stuff like that,” Lin Tian replied nonchalantly.

Handing the slippers to He Zhichen, Gan Yanyu added, “Here you go.”

As He Zhichen slipped them on, he couldn’t shake the nagging feeling that something was… off.

“Miss Gan, where do you usually live?” he ventured cautiously.

“In the building across the street, also on the sixth floor,” she answered matter-of-factly.

“Oh, okay…” He Zhichen nodded slowly, realizing his assumption should have been obvious. Still, something about the dynamic between Lin Tian and Gan Yanyu puzzled him deeply.

For instance, why did Gan Yanyu seem to know exactly where everything was—yet always ask permission to use it? Why did she act so politely, almost as if visiting for the first time, despite clearly being familiar with the space?

Shaking off his thoughts, He Zhichen reminded himself not to pry into matters better left unspoken. Washing his hands, he returned to the table and got straight to business.

“To cut to the chase, here’s the first item: Dan thinks that since your identities are already exposed, there’s no reason to keep hiding anymore. So, in a couple of days, we’re planning a new album release event. The album itself will drop officially next Monday.”

“A release event?” Gan Yanyu tilted her head slightly, her expression unreadable.

“Yes, but considering you two are still relatively new and young, Dan thought you might prefer avoiding large offline gatherings. If that’s the case, we have an alternative plan: hosting the event as a live-streamed chat instead.”
