Chapter 123.1 Volume 2 Afterword
This is the end of Volume 2. What follows after this will be the content of Volume 3, and I’m using this afterword as the divider.
First, let me talk about my thoughts:
I still owe two chapters from the subscribed readers, but I haven’t forgotten. It’s just that writing extra chapters is really a writer’s greatest enemy — when I rush to pump out words, a ton of details don’t get handled properly, and I end up with a sloppy mess. I really wanted to say, “It’s over, it collapsed, the book has flopped,” to ease the pressure on myself, but that bunch of loudmouths in the group would definitely start mocking me again, so I’ll refrain!
According to the outline, this volume was supposed to show the protagonist fully gaining a foothold in this unfamiliar world and maturing into his proper form.
As for the results… the protagonist achieves huge success thanks to Hanzawa Naoki. I didn’t want to go down the repetitive “shoot drama after drama” route, so I placed that one up front. Otherwise, if the protagonist had already shot too many shows, everyone would’ve grown tired of watching them, and that would’ve wasted such a phenomenal, era-defining drama.
The protagonist succeeds in his career, but his personal life is a complete mess. His love life is handled poorly—an absolute failure. One success and one failure… a reasonable balance, I guess. Too bad I didn’t execute it well. The number of people demanding I kill off Hakuba Neiko is almost in the triple digits now. I honestly never expected that “looking like the first love” would be such a poisonous trope! If I had known, I wouldn’t have used it!
Damn it, you drop into a strange world and see someone who looks like your first love—of course you’d feel close to them, want to get to know them, maybe even chase after them. Isn’t that perfectly normal human behavior?
And becoming a monk is no good either. If he doesn’t become a monk, how is he supposed to take along the monkey, the pig, and the turtle, ride a white horse to the West, and fetch the true scriptures…? But apparently copying Journey to the West isn’t allowed either…
But…
On the road to becoming a good writer, the ground is full of mines. Pit every three steps, crap every five steps, toxic points everywhere. It’s impossible to guard against them all. Truly helpless!
Lesson learned. If I ever mention “first love” again in my next book, then I’m a dog!
Next, thank you all for giving me the chance to make mistakes and still achieve such good results. Even though I also got screwed by Qidian’s data system, I acknowledge it. What I owe, I will repay. All I can do is spend more time revising repeatedly. For example, the previous chapter was supposed to be posted last night, but I kept revising and revising and still wasn’t satisfied, so it got delayed until now. Please forgive me.
I really just wanted to craft a nice ending—but no matter what I did, it always felt like something was missing, and I still don’t know what!
Feels like rushing made the pacing a bit off. I’ll go reflect on it properly.
The more I work, the bigger my headache gets. Getting scolded every day…
Finally, let’s repeat the old line: if you feel like dropping the book, just drop it. Even I think it’s bland sometimes, let alone you guys. Once I figure things out and finally learn how to write a proper ending, you’re all welcome to come try my next book!
