Chapter 23: Family Scandals Should Not Leave the House

---

“Is there a problem?”

“Did the artificial Void Domain malfunction?”

“I remember that section of the Void Domain has been around for quite some time.”

The young teachers began murmuring among themselves, and even the more experienced professors couldn’t help but furrow their brows.

“Professor Monisha, aren’t practical exam scores out of a hundred?” A teacher with medium-length hair lowered her voice.

Right… shouldn’t it be out of a hundred?... Monisha awkwardly smiled and replied:

“It’s possible the display malfunctioned and combined several scores into one.”

Her tone was uncertain.

Haggai, the principal standing at the front of the dark brown table, looked down at the report, his expression returning to its usual stern composure.

He raised his hand to silence the chatter:

“The Void Domain cannot malfunction. Even though it is called ‘artificial,’ its essence remains unchanged.”

Haggai flipped to the second page of the document—a statistical chart. However, it only showed two long lines. Upon closer inspection, dozens of tiny bumps could be seen on the flat line, representing the scores of other candidates.

“One team drastically raised the average score.” He concluded, “Do the names Mithra Camia and Viya Fanyar ring any bells?”

“Camia… is that the surname I’m thinking of?”

“The daughter of the Camia family—this does seem to explain things.”

“Truly impressive, the younger generation these days…”

“Noah has taught her well.”

They readily accepted this explanation. Though they still couldn’t comprehend how such a score was calculated, it didn’t stop them from congratulating each other.

This score was simply too shocking—it wasn’t something that could be achieved through sheer strength alone. The young lady of the duke’s family must have discovered some special pattern in the Void Domain and exploited it to rack up points.

But regardless, as long as no forbidden actions were taken, the score stood valid, no matter how absurd it seemed.

Amidst the cheers and applause, only one person remained calm.

“It wasn’t her. Among the candidates, the one truly worth paying attention to is someone else.”

A voice of dissent halted everyone’s movements. They turned to look at the man sitting in the back row.

He wore a jacket, a neatly tied tie, had sharp features, emerald-green eyes, and gray-streaked temples.

Lann Camia, the eldest son of the Camia family and assistant to Rothesia’s principal.

He was also Mithra’s older brother.

“Mithra couldn’t have done this,” he repeated, “Of course, if your job here is flattery rather than educating students, feel free to ignore my words.”

His statement made the atmosphere slightly awkward. Some teachers couldn’t resist sarcastically replying:

“Thank you. If not for your reminder, I wouldn’t have realized this was a school.”

In their view, Lann had brought private family disputes into the workplace.

It was normal for siblings competing for the same title of succession to clash.

Hearing the unmistakably sarcastic remarks, Lann didn’t argue. He maintained his seated posture, resembling a statue.

“All right, I believe everyone here understands they are responsible for their own words.” A teacher stepped forward to mediate: “Assistant Lann knows Mithra much better than we do. If he says so, he must have his reasons.”

Feeling the gaze of the crowd, Lann opened his mouth but said nothing.

The teacher was absolutely right—he knew his blood relative very well. Precisely because of this, he understood what kind of person his sister was.

Using Rothesia’s current trendy slang—

That was the most fitting description Lann could think of.

Mithra would always aim for fourth place instead of striving for the top three, and she’d take every opportunity to slack off if she could.

Given her personality, even if she had uncovered some special pattern in the Void Domain, she would likely keep it to herself, perhaps mentioning it casually over tea or dinner just to pass the time.

There was no way she’d suddenly achieve fame.

Lann would bet everything that Mithra had equipped herself with control-and-support laureates during the exam, relying entirely on her teammates while hiding in the shadows to coast by.

Voices urging him to speak up buzzed in his ears.

No, this matter concerns the honor of the Camia family. I also shouldn’t embarrass my family in public… He took a deep breath and calmly stated:

“Family scandals should not leave the house—I cannot say more.”

Isn’t that basically saying everything?... The teachers’ cheeks twitched slightly, but they tactfully avoided pressing further on the issue.

The Void Domain

“How do you plan to explain this ‘accident’?”

Mithra looked at the completely broken bracelet on the ground and asked Viya.

She figured that if she didn’t prompt her, Viya might stand there silently for an eternity.

Viya remained silent, though notably, her azure eyes now shimmered with a faint light, no longer as hollow as before.

At the moment the bracelet broke, the unnamed deity left behind a brief “Rest for now” before departing.

Under normal circumstances, Viya might have felt relieved—after all, even stepping into a church of faith could evoke deep-seated fear, let alone such close “interaction.”

But now, she dared not move.

Rest… How does one rest in the Void Domain… What should I do next? Should I continue playing the role of that indifferent “me”? Viya’s mind raced as she struggled to keep her tone neutral:

“What do you think we should do?”

No matter how hard she tried, subtle differences lingered in her tone.

Fortunately, Mithra’s thoughts were elsewhere. She casually replied:

“If we attribute everything to luck, it would be an insult to ourselves.”

“But ultimately, it’s up to you—I don’t care either way.”

Mithra laughed and passed the ball back:

“I’m sure you already have a plan.”

I have a plan?

How am I supposed to know?

Viya fervently prayed in her heart, reciting whatever prayers came to mind, hoping the presence could still hear her voice and offer some guidance.

Her situation now was akin to being sent on a business trip by her boss, who patted her shoulder and said, “Take care of it,” before leaving with hands clasped behind his back without another word, leaving her to guess what to do.

What was even scarier was that her boss now was literally the “top” authority!

She wouldn’t even need to lift a finger—his followers would tear her apart alive.

Don’t think that people in churches are necessarily respectable figures. Viya would think she was reading a criminal code if the title of the Chapter of the Penitents was covered.

Brain, start working… Viya stared blankly at the sky and finally spoke after careful consideration:

“Leave it as it is.”

Let things unfold naturally?

Mithra nodded lightly:

“That works. Since it’s already happened, the fact itself is the best explanation.”

Then, as if remembering something, her expression suddenly tensed, and she cautiously asked:

“Shouldn’t we head back now?”

After everything that had happened, Mithra had noticed that Viya had a certain “combat high” component to her behavior.

She feared that Viya might declare:

“No score can reward me; exploring my limits is the greatest reward.”

And then reach out to touch the red light point, continuing to challenge Lord’s Islands.

I’ve been waiting for you to say that!

Viya’s eyes lit up. She rested her fist under her chin, pretending to hesitate:

“Hmm…”

She glanced at Mithra, shook her head, and said with feigned regret:

“You’re not in good shape. Continuing the challenge wouldn’t be appropriate…”

“Yes! Exactly!” Mithra nodded repeatedly. “It’s about time we left!”

“Agreed.”

After saying this, both Viya and Mithra secretly sighed in relief.

Finally… I can rest…

Their thoughts were surprisingly aligned.
