Chapter 170: For Life and Freedom

Wang Ping decided it was time to teach these two "dirt-covered fools" a lesson about the harsh realities of nature.

As he approached, he noticed that the rabbit's leg was tied with what appeared to be a shoelace, now worn gray from dirt. With an expression of naive curiosity, Wang Ping moved closer to the rabbit. The two men, barely containing their excitement, whispered urgently:

"Yes, yes, right there!"

"Don’t move, don’t move!"

"Just stay there!"

"Mm..." Obligingly, Wang Ping stopped directly on the trap’s center, inspecting the gray-furred rabbit tethered to the metal frame. It seemed they had spared no expense; the rabbit was larger than Wang Ping himself, looking quite plump and appetizing.

"First things first…”

Wang Ping wiped away the mixture of blood and drool from his mouth, reaching out to touch the rabbit's listless head. After numerous failed escape attempts, the rabbit resigned itself to its fate, offering no resistance as Wang Ping patted it, wearing an expression of pathetic acceptance.

Glancing sideways, Wang Ping saw that the two men had shifted their attention away from him, eagerly staring at the sky.

The golden eagle circled overhead, hesitant to dive again—perhaps wary of the stone Wang Ping had thrown earlier or recognizing the trap beneath him.

Seizing the moment while the men were distracted, Wang Ping bent down and untied the shoelace binding the rabbit's legs. Feeling the sudden release, the rabbit twitched its hind legs, glanced back, and tentatively took a step forward.

"Hehe, in gratitude for saving you, become my dinner... Oh crap!"

Just as Wang Ping freed the rabbit, preparing to locate and disable the trap mechanism, the once lethargic creature sprang to life, kicking off with its powerful hind legs. Reacting instinctively, Wang Ping grabbed one of the rabbit's ears, only to be yanked forward as the rabbit bolted.

"Huh? Crap! The rabbit's running!"

A shout came from behind, followed by a loud BANG. Dragged along by the rabbit, Wang Ping’s feet scraped against the ground. Looking back, he saw the massive trap had been triggered; the metal frames snapped shut with a resounding clang.

Angry shouts erupted as the camouflage covering the pit was flung aside, revealing two figures emerging amidst a cloud of dust, chasing after them.

BANG!

A burst of dirt exploded ten meters away from Wang Ping. The crude homemade guns had a range of less than twenty meters, but the sound startled the rabbit, which suddenly accelerated. Wang Ping felt the ground burn beneath his feet, skin peeling away from the friction.

He knew rabbits were fast, but experiencing it firsthand was another matter entirely.

Using the momentum of the rabbit's turn, Wang Ping pushed off the ground, leaping onto the rabbit's back. Gripping its ears like reins, he settled into a riding position.

The rabbit, momentarily stunned by the unexpected weight, quickly forgot about Wang Ping when gunfire rang out again. Fueled by adrenaline, the rabbit dashed forward with renewed vigor.

This unexpected spectacle drew everyone’s attention. No one anticipated that the two seemingly incompetent amateurs would be the first to spring into action.

Seeing them firing wildly in pursuit, the poacher hiding in the pit couldn't resist any longer and shot twice at their backs.

Though the shots missed, the two men dropped to the ground, unharmed due to the distance. They lay there, cursing loudly.

Meanwhile, the golden eagle above emitted a sharp cry, flying towards the southern cliff. Suddenly, two smaller eagles soared from the cliff, circling and diving with piercing cries.

From afar, a thunderous roar echoed from the cliff's peak. A golden eagle, accompanied by cascading snow, plummeted down.

"It’s begun!"

The group pinned down by Anna grew anxious. The leader's backup team had started their assault; if they failed to provide support, Erzi hidden on the mountain would be in grave danger.

Unbeknownst to them, Erzi had already met his end.

Over the radio, chaos erupted among Team Three. Luke had left his post to assist Anna, and returning in time was impossible.

"Anna, take them out and bring that car over!" Luke shouted over the comms.

With bicycles, intercepting those atop the mountain before their escape was hopeless. The only vehicle available was the poachers' hidden pickup truck.

BANG!

A shot rang out from Anna’s direction, triggering an avalanche of snow, but no casualties were visible on the cliff.

"Damn it!" Luke cursed, sprinting from behind the rock, pistol drawn.

Underneath Wang Ping, the rabbit went berserk. Surrounded by the cacophony of eagle cries and gunfire, the newly freed creature burned every calorie, its hind legs propelling it forward like pistons. Wang Ping felt as though he were riding Rosette herself.

Suddenly, a massive cloud of dust rose from the eastern horizon, accompanied by tremors signaling the approach of a stampede.

"Captain! Anna! A herd of yaks is heading this way... Wait, there’s a vehicle leading them! Someone’s deliberately driving them here! Take cover!" Park Yoo-hee screamed over the radio.

BANG! BANG!

The commotion was quickly drowned out by the thunderous pounding of hooves.

Without needing guidance, the rabbit beneath Wang Ping executed a sharp drift, nearly throwing him off, then sped westward even faster.

On the opposite side, everyone abandoned concealment, shouting and scrambling to escape.

A motor roared as a pickup truck smashed through its camouflage, bursting out of the pit.

"Our truck!"

The two dirt-covered men, previously lying on the ground, jumped up, weapons raised, only to be knocked down by rubber bullets fired by Luke who charged in from the side.

"Ouch... Is that Luke? Why does he look so murderous?"

Riding the rabbit like a speeding horse, Wang Ping wore a look of utter bewilderment.
