Chapter 164: She’s So Cool!
The Hummer roared past the mountain pass, completely oblivious to the Jeep Wrangler parked just ten meters away—and equally unaware of the faint metallic clink that echoed from beneath its undercarriage.
Inside the vehicle, the atmosphere was tense.
After a long silence, someone in the backseat finally broke it, their voice trembling as they spoke in English: “What… what are we even doing here?”
“What? Are you scared?” came a mocking chuckle from the front.
“She works for the boss, though. What if he finds out we killed—”
Before the speaker could finish, a low, cutting voice from the passenger seat interrupted him. “Even if the boss doesn’t find out, I’ll tell him myself!”
“What?” one of the passengers gasped.
“Heh,” the man in the passenger seat turned around, sneering at the two in the back as he tapped his temple. “If you want to get ahead, use your brain!”
“You’re planning to lie to the boss… uh…”
The person who started to respond was abruptly elbowed by the person beside them, choking off the rest of their sentence.
“I know exactly what you’re thinking!” the man in the passenger seat snorted disdainfully. “Let me make this clear—the moment we realized that Yuan had been leading us in circles instead of getting anything done, I knew something was up.”
“But…” another hesitated. “Didn’t she say we were supposed to let the smaller players fight it out while we waited to swoop in and reap the rewards?”
“Bullshit! That woman is trouble!” The man in the front suddenly erupted, cursing loudly. “I’ve suspected her ulterior motives for days. Yesterday, I overheard her on the phone—she wants us dead!”
“What?!”
“That woman has already arranged for another team to come in. Our job is to act as decoys, drawing attention while she escapes with her own crew! If I hadn’t overheard her call, we’d still be dancing to her tune!”
“This… but now that she’s dead, what do we do next?” the first voice asked nervously.
“It’s simple,” the man replied coldly. “She wanted us to distract the cops, right? Well, we’ll turn the tables. Erzi is already positioned on the mountaintop. When the other team arrives, we’ll intercept them. Once we hand over the goods and complete the mission, the boss will see this as a success. As for Yuan’s fate—do you really think the boss cares?”

Meanwhile, Wang Ping stood atop the modified bumper of the Hummer, watching the ground blur past below. He estimated they already entered the Gobi Desert now. The terrain had shifted to a mix of sandy soil and gravel, dotted with sparse, desiccated plants swaying helplessly in the wind.
The storm provided excellent cover for infiltration—but without knowing whether his teammates were nearby, an ambush could spell disaster.
Ten kilometers away, perched halfway up Chitong Mountain, a Black man cradled a thermos cup filled with steaming coffee. His eyes were glued to a laptop screen displaying contour lines and several blinking dots. One dot, in particular, moved steadily eastward.
Behind him, a golden-haired girl dressed in khaki combat gear and sporting a ponytail meticulously packed supplies into a large backpack: compressed food rations, water bottles, fully charged batteries, rubber bullets, and other equipment.
“Iru, I’m heading out to deliver these supplies. Keep an eye out while I’m gone,” she said, slinging the heavy pack onto her back.
“Wait, Sama! There’s movement…” Iru raised his arm, signaling for her to pause. He pressed a finger to his earpiece and spoke into the radio. “Anna, can you hear me?”
Static crackled alongside the howling wind before Anna’s terse voice responded: “Speak.”
“There’s someone approaching your location from the northwest, approximately 1,000 meters away. They’re moving slowly. Estimated time of arrival: five minutes, 100 meters north of your position.”
“Copy,” Anna replied curtly, then went silent.
Sama shrugged, setting the backpack down again, and leaned over curiously. “Is Anna always this… um, aloof? I think she’s so cool!”
“Aloof? Cool?” Iru blinked, processing her words. Then, shaking his head, he rolled his eyes dramatically and burst into laughter.
“Oh my god! Haha! Wow, no one’s made such a hilarious joke since Wang-” His words stopped abruptly,

As the Hummer entered the relatively flat expanse of the Gobi, its speed increased noticeably. It seemed the occupants had a specific destination in mind; not once did they stop to check the terrain.
Wang Ping scanned the surroundings from his perch on the rear bumper, but visibility was abysmal. Just as frustration began to creep in, his sensitive ears twitched. A faint metallic clang resonated from somewhere within the swirling dust.
Moments later, a series of sharp impacts rattled the vehicle. The glass on the northern side shattered with a crisp ping.
“Damn it!” Wang Ping instinctively ducked behind the bumper.
The Hummer screeched to a halt, and shouts erupted inside. Doors flew open, and four figures leapt out. They quickly darted to the rear of the vehicle on the opposite side, crouching low while raising their weapons toward the direction of the incoming fire.
“For crying out loud, are these guys idiots? Jumping out like that?” Wang Ping muttered, peeking cautiously from behind the bumper.
Seeing the four of them clad in black combat gear, each looking like they’d just stepped out of a warzone, Wang Ping was struck by how over-the-top it all seemed. To make matters worse, each of them was armed to the teeth—guns in hand, more strapped to their waists.
"Isn’t this a bit much…? Where on earth did they get all that? No wonder they dared to step out of the vehicle…"
Having grown up in China, Wang Ping knew full well just how difficult it was to obtain firearms in the country. Yet here were these men, equipped with USP semi-automatic pistols holstered on their legs and an assortment of weapons cradled in their arms—MP5s, Berettas, you name it. Anyone who didn’t know better might have assumed they’d just finished browsing an American gun shop.
Wang Ping blinked, suddenly realizing something. Without wasting another second, he scrambled along the bumper to the other side of the vehicle and slipped inside through the shattered rear window.
Inside, the seats were empty, abandoned by the fleeing occupants. Climbing onto the rear bench, Wang Ping spotted a canvas bag lying open. Inside were stacks of ammunition boxes, bundles of detonators, and two uniquely designed pistols. Beneath the seat lay an empty collapsible metal cage.
Grabbing the canvas bag, Wang Ping dragged it toward the door. Then, darting to the front, he snatched the car keys still dangling in the ignition and tossed them into the bag. Just as he prepared to flee with his loot, his gaze fell upon a sleek, guitar-case-like rectangular box tucked behind the rear seats near the back window.
Eyes gleaming, Wang Ping scrambled over and unlatched the case. Nestled inside was a disassembled, heavily modified M110 sniper rifle.
“Now this is some quality gear!”
---
Outside, the four individuals split into two groups, taking cover behind the Hummer and aiming their guns southward. Behind them, a tall figure emerged from the swirling sandstorm, steadily advancing toward them.
