Chapter 176: The Final Battle of Krotan (Part 3)

On the screen, countless black dots swarmed like locusts—tens of thousands strong. Ordinary rifles couldn’t penetrate Ulikemi Shields, and there weren’t enough machine gun nests or rapid-fire turrets to hold them back. What were they supposed to do? Even if they managed to repel this wave, it would be a Pyrrhic victory at best.

"General, we’ve received reports from the western and northern fronts. A friendly force has appeared on the battlefield," the intelligence officer announced suddenly.

"Friendly forces?" Everyone froze. The rebels were already at their last stand—where could these allies possibly come from?

"Maki, you’re saying friendly forces? Are you sure the intel is accurate?" Virginia instinctively brushed a strand of hair from her face, frowning deeply.

"Yes, it’s confirmed—they’re friendlies." Before Maki could transfer the footage from the western and northern fronts to the central screen, communications officer Sabin interjected. "General, we’ve received an incoming transmission request."

"Is it the enemy?" Marion asked.

"No… not the enemy. They know our identification codes and claim to be allies."

"Allies?" Marion blinked in surprise. "Quick, patch it through to the main screen."

"Yes, sir." As soon as Sabin finished speaking, the central screen flickered, revealing a beautiful young woman.

"Claire? Why have you come back?" Virginia’s face darkened with anger and frustration. "I told you to leave! Why did you return?"

"Aunt Virginia, please listen—" Claire began, but someone gently pushed her aside and stepped forward.

"Ta... Talosal? What are you doing here?" Marion, Virginia, and the other high-ranking rebel officers stared in stunned silence.

"Haha, General, Aunt Virginia, everyone in the resistance—I’m here to save you all," Tang Fang said with a wink. "Tell the fire control team to be careful when they open fire. If they hurt any of my people, I’ll lose my temper." With that, he cut the connection.

The room fell silent as everyone exchanged bewildered glances. Finally, Marion snapped out of his daze and turned to Sabin. "What are you waiting for? Tell the fire control team to prepare and make sure they don’t accidentally hit our allies."

"Allies… Allies…" Marion sighed, realization dawning. "In Krotan, who else but him could count as our ally?" His gaze shifted to the monitor array, where mechanized infantry battalions were rapidly advancing toward the base. "But even with him here, against such overwhelming odds… can he really turn the tide?"

---

The battle raged on. The glow of machine guns lit up soldiers’ faces in flashes of red. A shell streaked toward them, landing barely ten meters away with a deafening boom. Ice shards and fragments of rock pelted the steel walls of the bunker, clattering loudly.

The barrage didn’t stop. Behind the spitting flames of the machine gun, the operator’s face was etched with fury.

"Woooom… BOOM!" This time, it was a precision-guided missile. The base’s anti-air defenses had failed to intercept it.

The explosion shook the bunker above them. Steel beams twisted, and chunks of concrete and metal rained down, thudding heavily onto the soldiers’ powered armor.

"Clatter." A soldier emerged from the rubble, shaking his head to clear it of debris. His machine gun lay buried under mangled wreckage. Ahead, government troops had crossed the buffer zone and were closing in on the frontline fortifications.

"Damn it!" He cursed, frantically digging through the debris to uncover his weapon. As long as he still drew breath, he wouldn’t abandon his post.

"Hey, need a hand?" A voice called out from behind him.

Startled, the soldier glanced over his shoulder. A figure clad in thick power armor, holding an unfamiliar assault rifle, strode forward and crushed piles of debris beneath his boot. Without hesitation, he pulled the trigger, unleashing a continuous stream of fire that illuminated his cigar-chewing face.

In front of them, rows of government soldiers fell like wheat before a scythe.

"Th-thank you," the soldier stammered after a long pause. Then, realizing something, he turned to look behind him.

Behind the fortifications, dozens of similarly equipped strangers sprinted toward the frontlines. Beyond them, twenty unfamiliar transport ships descended slowly, deploying tanks one by one into the no-man’s-land between the base and the outer defenses.

And then came a sight the soldier would never forget. Thirty tanks crouched on their legs, extending mechanical arms on either side. Slamming down onto the ground, their turrets rose, cannons telescoping and transforming into rectangular cannons.

"BOOM, BOOM, BOOM..." Thunder erupted as glowing plasma spheres soared into the sky, tracing graceful arcs across dozens of kilometers before slamming into the enemy’s armored formations on the horizon.

Like boulders dropped into a tranquil lake, chaos rippled through the enemy ranks. Rhino tanks, Saber-Tooth vehicles, and Jaguar units scattered like ants caught in a rainstorm, their formations collapsing as soldiers fled in panic.

"OH, SHIT!" The soldier blurted out involuntarily.

Just then, shadows streaked overhead. He looked up reflexively to see dozens of supersonic fighters sweeping past. Guided missiles formed a deadly curtain in the southern sky, turning government aircraft, drones, and missiles into fiery balls that spiraled down to earth.

At the same time, a low whistling sound approached from behind. Eight transports roared over the battlefield, dropping heavily armored soldiers onto the field below.

"All personnel in defensive positions, be cautious with your attacks. Do not harm our allies," Lieutenant Colonel Chesterton’s voice crackled over the comms.

The soldier swallowed hard, abandoning his attempt to dig out the machine gun. Collapsing onto the ruins, he sat there, dumbfounded, staring at the battlefield.

Bio-weapon squads composed of Marauders, Firebats, and Medics tore through the leading edge of the government army, sending soldiers fleeing in terror. Lightweight Hellions moved with incredible speed and agility, spewing columns of fire that roasted infantry like chickens, leaving smoking corpses in their wake.

"This… this is nothing short of a massacre," the soldier muttered, feeling a chill run down his spine. Sweat soaked the back of his neck as sympathy welled up for the government forces. Though they vastly outnumbered the rebels, fate had dealt them a cruel hand. This sudden appearance of allies had brought with it a technological advantage so overwhelming that resistance seemed futile.
