Chapter 175: The Final Battle of Krotan (Part 2)

Grant clenched his teeth, straining to drag Walton behind him. Blood smeared across the icy ground in a long streak.

"Grant, go! Leave me!" Walton's face was ashen, devoid of color. A Saber-Tooth A1 armored vehicle’s machine gun had shattered his leg, nearly breaking the bone.

"Walton, stop talking nonsense. You think dying before me is that easy? Not a chance."

The roar of armed motorcycles echoed in the distance. Walton panicked, gripping his rifle tightly and looking around frantically. "Go! If you don’t hurry, we’ll both die here! Don’t forget—you have Joey to take care of. Don’t break your promise to Selena!"

"I’m a man first, then a husband. Selena would understand. Walton, give it up. Today, if we die, we die together. I won’t leave you behind."

"Huff… huff… huff…" Walton gasped for breath, blood gushing from his leg wound. He felt his strength ebbing away, making speech difficult.

"Clang, clang, clang…" Just as they argued, the sound of clashing metal came from the flank. Suddenly, a Rhino main battle tank rumbled up a slope, its massive form blotting out their view as it charged straight toward them.

Its heavy treads gouged deep pits into the ice, and the alloy blade at the front gleamed with cold menace.

"Grant, go! It’s trying to crush us! Run, run!" Walton shouted desperately, mustering what little strength he had left.

"No way. If we go, we go together. I’ve already watched too many comrades die. I’m your Captain—I should be the first to fall." Grant stepped in front of Walton, firing a burst of bullets at the Rhino. "If you want him, you’ll have to take me down first."

"You stubborn bastard! Even in hell, I won’t forgive you!" Walton yelled, though tears glistened in his eyes as he stared at Grant’s back.

The Rhino loomed closer, its blade reflecting blinding silver light under the sun. Bullets ricocheted harmlessly off its thick armor, sparking faintly.

As death approached, Grant’s eyes showed no fear—only calm acceptance and regret. A dream, after all, was like the horizon: always just out of reach.

Thud. A muffled explosion sounded, but neither man paid attention. Explosions were commonplace on this battlefield; tremors and roars were part of daily life.

But two seconds later, Grant’s eyes lit up with astonishment. From the side, an unexpected intruder—a raging bull of destruction—charged in, slamming into the 50-ton Rhino with enough force to flip it upside down.

"Screech, screech…" The overturned Rhino writhed like a turtle, its treads spinning uselessly. No matter how hard it struggled, it couldn’t right itself.

The interloper lowered its head, and with a thunderous roar, twin barrels unleashed a torrent of fire. Two gaping holes appeared in the Rhino’s flat underbelly, spewing molten plasma that turned the interior into a fiery inferno. The two crew members inside were incinerated instantly, reduced to charred remains.

"Gulp." Grant swallowed hard.

Suddenly, a silver figure emerged from behind the mysterious savior, rushing to Walton’s side. A beam of healing light enveloped his mangled leg, knitting flesh and bone back together at an astonishing rate. Even his damaged powered armor was restored.

"There. You might feel dizzy or experience some itching around the wound for a while, but it’ll pass," a soothing voice said.

Walton was dumbfounded. "You… who are you…?"

Before he could finish, another figure darted forward, extending a hand. "Get up. There’s no time to rest yet."

It was a Marine who pulled him to his feet.

"You… it’s you… Talosal is here. Talosal has returned!" Walton felt as though he were dreaming—it all seemed so surreal.

Meanwhile, Grant stood frozen, gazing at the sky. In the distance, a massive transport aircraft, over 40 meters long, soared swiftly away. "He… he’s back…"

"Zzzt… krrk… krrk…" Before them, Siege Tanks aimed their lightning-wreathed cannons, targeting the horizon. With a deafening roar, they fired bursts of azure-blue energy.

---

In the northwest corner of the base, Shi Huaqing spat out a mouthful of bloody foam and used the last of his strength to open the rear hatch of the command vehicle. Rolling out, he collapsed onto the snow-covered ground.

"Cough, cough, cough…" He hacked violently, blood splattering the ground like raindrops. The biting wind rushed into his lungs, slicing through his chest like a knife.

"Heheheh, caught a big fish. Tsk, tsk, a colonel no less. This promotion is practically guaranteed."

"Captain, let me tie him up."

"Yeah, remember—alive is worth far more than dead."

"Hahaha, exactly! Foster, don’t go roughhousing this old guy, alright?"

"..."

Around the burning command vehicle lay the bodies of rebel soldiers, while several overturned Saber-Tooth series vehicles littered the perimeter. Surrounding Shi Huaqing were armed motorcycles, with a Saber-Tooth A1 armored vehicle parked nearby.

"Pfft, capture me? You’re dreaming." Shi Huaqing spat out a clot of blood, his vision blurred by the blood streaming down his face.

He surveyed the government soldiers, their lips curled into mocking smirks or cold sneers. Reaching for his sidearm, he pressed the barrel against his temple.

"Fool. Better to live miserably than die easily—that’s not a hard concept, is it?" The captain atop the Saber-Tooth A1 smoothed the wrinkles on his collar, speaking slowly and deliberately. "If you want to kill yourself, I won’t stop you. But afterward, I’ll cut off your head and collect my reward."

Shi Huaqing took a deep breath, his gaze growing colder as his finger tightened on the trigger.

But just then, a fierce gust of wind howled through the air. Accompanied by the sharp whine of something slicing through the atmosphere, a shadow streaked across the distance, landing with a thunderous crash that carved a long trench into the ice.

Darkness fell over Shi Huaqing as a towering steel-armored robot swung its massive cannon, flipping the Saber-Tooth A1 onto its side. Twisting its body, the robot unleashed a barrage of 30mm Gatling fire, shredding the enemy soldiers in seconds.

Bam, bam, bam, bam… Screams and the wet crunch of bones filled the air. An entire platoon of motorcycle troops was reduced to a grotesque swamp of flesh and blood.

Whoosh. A missile launched from the robot’s shoulder, detonating beneath the Saber-Tooth A1. The explosion ripped a gaping hole in the chassis, tearing the captain in half. His upper body was hurled ten meters away, landing in the snow amidst a spray of gore.

Hiss… Amidst the rush of displaced air, a colossal shadow descended from above. A thick medical beam bathed Shi Huaqing, healing his head wound and internal bleeding.

"Who… who is this…?" Shi Huaqing stared blankly as the steel giant transformed into a fighter jet, soaring into the clouds like a mythical sky dragon.

Overwhelmed by emotion—excitement, confusion, joy, awe—he found no single word could describe his feelings.

Psssst… A sudden burst of air drew his attention. Looking up, he saw the transport that had healed him descending slowly. Its cargo bay opened, releasing four unfamiliar light-armored vehicles.

Rumble… With a low growl, the vehicles pivoted and sped toward a line of government troops on the horizon. Meanwhile, the transport climbed higher, its thrusters flaring as it raced toward another part of the battlefield.

Shi Huaqing scanned the distant skies. Dozens of transforming fighters darted through the yellowish haze, raining rockets like a thousand-armed demon god. Enemy fighters, attack shuttles, helicopters, drones, cruise missiles—all manner of airborne threats—plummeted from the sky like falling stars.

"Am I dreaming…?" He glanced at the chaotic aerial battlefield, then at the empty space around him, littered only with corpses. Sinking to the ground, he sat there in disbelief.

From the horizon came distant screams, and a blazing inferno stretched hundreds of meters, distorting the air with its heat.

---

At the front of the base, the government army’s vanguard had concentrated 70% of its armored forces here. Rhino tanks, artillery barrages, and precision-guided missiles pinned the rebels within their defenses, preventing them from raising their heads.

Over 60% of the rebels’ cannon turrets had been destroyed by high-precision missiles, and the frontline anti-air systems were partially disabled. Only a few cannons, rapid-fire turrets, twelve electromagnetic railguns guarding the main gate, and two super plasma cannons on either flank continued to hold the enemy at bay.

Yet even these powerful weapons couldn’t fully halt the advance. The railguns consumed enormous amounts of energy, and the plasma cannons required cooldown periods between shots. This gave the enemy openings. After luring the plasma cannons to fire, waves of power-armored infantry surged forward in relentless assaults.

Using railguns and cannons against infantry was akin to swatting mosquitoes with a sledgehammer—it achieved little. Only smaller-caliber rapid-fire turrets and machine gun nests could effectively counter the onslaught.

After hours of grueling combat, most of the machine gun nests had been obliterated, and nearly half of the rapid-fire turrets were damaged.

Virginia and Marion stood before the central screen in the command center, watching anxiously as wave after wave of enemy infantry advanced. This was the largest deployment of forces since the government’s initial assault.
