Chapter 171: Starport
"Don’t waste your time." Saxton sneered, the corners of his mouth twitching with a hint of hysteria. "This entire room is forged from a single massive block of inert EZero crystal—harder than a battleship's hull by orders of magnitude. You think mere firearms can break through? You’re dreaming."
"Is that so?" Tang Fang offered a nonchalant smile, pausing briefly before raising his hand. A wormhole crackling with electric-blue energy slowly materialized before him.
Saxton’s eyes widened in shock, staring at Tang Fang as if he were some kind of demonic entity. "Wha… what? How… why…"
His voice trailed off as a four-legged monstrosity emerged from the wormhole, immediately capturing his full attention.
Tang Fang glanced at Saxton’s stunned face and flicked his finger toward the corner of the glass chamber.
The Stalker’s head carapace split open, its particle disruptor cannon charging fully. With a flash of silver light, the beam struck the surface of the glass chamber, erupting into a dazzling burst of radiance.
A fiery red hue spread rapidly across the crystalline barrier. The vaunted EZero crystal, said to withstand hydrogen bomb blasts, melted away like snow under the midday sun.
Saxton’s eyes nearly bulged out of their sockets. The high-purity EZero crystal—the hardest armor known to man, impervious even to plasma weapons over short durations—was dissolving before his very eyes, liquefying into streams of pale blue fluid.
"By the heavens above, what is that accursed thing?!" Saxton thought, his mind reeling. "How could it possess such devastating weaponry?"
Tang Fang didn’t respond. Instead, he rewarded the hapless Saxton with a metal spike to the chest. Perhaps King Yama would provide answers on the other side.
From breaching the EZero crystal barrier to eliminating Saxton Leonard, the entire process took less than thirty seconds. Tang Fang vaulted over the railing from the second floor into the data center below, quickly connecting the power armor’s interface to the computer’s data port.
"Emma, get to work."
"At once, Commander."
"Initiating scan program... cracking firewall... decrypting algorithms... injecting permissions... suspending all threads... activating DEBUG mode... modifying kernel data... restarting primary processes... please wait..."
As Emma’s voice faded, the silvery glow on the surface of the large quantum computer’s circular chip modules dimmed momentarily. A string of characters flashed across the central screen, followed by the hum of electrical equipment powering up. The system rebooted.
"Commander, Gaia-S507 is online. Awaiting orders."
Gaia-S507? Tang Fang blinked, then realized it must be the codename for this supercomputer.
"Search the encrypted database and copy all valuable data."
"Yes, initiating database search..." As the command executed, Gaia-S507’s massive electronic screen listed one encrypted item after another. Meanwhile, the Orbital Command Center launched numerous decryption threads, simultaneously decoding files and transferring valuable data to remote storage.
The progress bar inched forward steadily, file after file of confidential data transferring from Gaia-S507’s database to the Orbital Command Center.
"Dogfish Shark-class frigate structural analysis, Scorpion attack helicopter production line configuration, shipborne cyclotron manufacturing process, White Shark-class cruiser weapon system research..."
Glancing at the titles of the encrypted files, Tang Fang’s lips curled into a satisfied smirk. These were hard currencies in the space—items guaranteed to fetch astronomical sums on any black market. Whether or not leaking imperial secrets mattered was far beyond his concerns.
Lost in pleasant fantasies of future wealth, Tang Fang was suddenly interrupted by a cold, unfamiliar voice:
"Detected usable data. Initiating diagnostic program..."
"Diagnostics complete. Confirmed compatibility: Terran."
"Analyzing data..."
"Engineering Level B+, Research tree unlocked, Technology level 2, Building unlocked: 'Starport'."
Starport. It was finally here. Tang Fang’s eyes lit up with excitement. The Starport—the key to air supremacy, the foundation for galactic dominance.
"Tang Fang, are you alright?" Arroz asked, noticing the change in his expression.
Tang Fang grinned at him. "Relax, I’m fine." With that, he focused his mind within the system interface.
Selecting an SCV, he pressed the advanced structure hotkey. The Starport adjacent to the Factory glowed brightly.
With a quick tap of the shortcut key, he directed the SCV to place the Starport on an empty patch of ground beside the Factory. Accompanied by the familiar game music, the structure completed construction within seconds.
Suppressing his excitement, Tang Fang clicked on the Starport. On the right-hand production menu, Viking fighters and medivac transports were prominently listed. However, the attached tech lab upgrade remained locked.
Frowning slightly, Tang Fang waited patiently. But even after all the data had been copied, Emma hadn’t sent any notification about unlocking the tech lab.
"Emma, what’s going on? Why hasn’t the Starport’s tech lab attachment been unlocked?"
"Commander, insufficient research data. Unlocking the Starport tech lab requires higher-level shipyard or warship manufacturing techniques."
"Hmm? Be more specific."
"Based on current aerospace-related data obtained, here are the possibilities: Pioneer-class research vessels and similar models have a 40% chance of unlocking the Starport tech lab. Phantom-class armed shuttles and similar models have a 27% chance. Whale Shark-class battleships and similar models have a 72% chance..."
"Stop, stop." Tang Fang’s face darkened further with each word. Where would Krotan get production lines for Pioneer-class research ships or Phantom-class armed shuttles? And Whale Shark-class battleships? Those were capital ships only produced by the empire’s largest shipyards. Cain Rudolf might dabble in destroyers and cruisers, but battleships were far beyond his financial reach.
"Fine. Rome wasn’t built in a day. Step by step. There’s always tomorrow." Tang Fang consoled himself. "The Viking fighter is versatile in both atmospheric and space combat, and so is the medivac transport. With enough of these units, we can still crush Krotan’s air force—and even Hatto Spaceport’s fleet."
Taking a deep breath, Tang Fang refocused his attention within the system interface, selecting the Starport and examining the two air units available in the production menu.
