It turned out that a week earlier, Tang Fang’s departure from the Arctic under Shi Huaqing’s guidance had been discovered by Joseph and Gabrilles. Already at odds over the pace of the uprising, this revelation only deepened their rift, pushing tensions to a breaking point.

Joseph, ever the politician, weighed his options carefully. When faced with the choice between revolutionary ideals and personal gain, he tipped the scales toward the latter. Marion never anticipated that Joseph and Gabrilles would unite against him, let alone orchestrate a trap so seamlessly. Before he knew it, Marion found himself confined to the lower levels of the missile base.

As the spiritual leader of the resistance, Marion’s downfall would benefit no one—a fact Gabrilles understood well. Thus, instead of resorting to drastic measures, he merely kept Marion under house arrest. This restraint spared them an all-out bloodbath, as figures like Shi Huaqing and Virginia chose not to escalate hostilities further.

The Krotan uprising was in full swing when discord erupted among its leadership—a situation detrimental to both sides. After hours of negotiation between Virginia and Gabrilles, with Joseph mediating, the envoy finally conceded.

The matter involving Tang Fang would be forgiven; Marion could reclaim command of the uprising forces, and Charles Federation aid would continue uninterrupted. In return, however, the rebels were required to accelerate their campaign, spreading flames across every corner of Krotan.

To rescue Marion and salvage the crumbling rebellion, Virginia and her allies reluctantly agreed to these terms.

Originally, Marion’s plan called for the Apalus insurgents to disperse after the battle, blending into civilian life until the opportune moment for rebellion arose. But following the Arctic coup, those plans were scrapped. Gabrilles issued new orders: Hariman Crawford, commander of the northwest insurgent forces, was to bypass the government’s Third Legion and use the rugged terrain of the Kulunsk Mountains to march south. This maneuver aimed to force the Fourth Legion stationed in southwestern Odin Continent to engage, thereby stretching thin the defenses around the mineral resource bases.

Once the Fourth Legion moved, sleeper agents embedded within resource mines and military units would rise up, coordinating with Hariman’s forces to launch a pincer attack on the Fourth Legion.

After dismantling the Fourth Legion, the emboldened rebel army would push eastward, targeting the enemy’s 608th and 508th armored divisions—the thorns choking the Southern Sunaru Alliance—and then swing north to join forces with the Northern Sunaru Alliance, liberating eastern Odin entirely.

Finally, the sweeping rebel tide, alongside Droznyr’s garrison, would converge on Rheinstadt, Aldrich’s stronghold where the Diromos Plateau met the Miluo Plateau, for the decisive final battle to free Krotan completely.

Gabrilles’ strategy was meticulous, rational, and tailored perfectly to Krotan’s battlefield dynamics. Operations commenced swiftly. Hariman led guerrilla fighters bolstered by Apalus’ success southward through Termont’s mountains, crossing the Kulunsk range en route to southwestern Odin.

Aldrich “panicked.” While ordering the Fourth Legion to respond, he redirected the 508th and 608th Divisions of the First Eastern Legion away from their siege of the Southern Sunaru Alliance, rushing them southwest to guard against potential labor revolts near the resource bases. Simultaneously, he instructed the First and Third Fleets of the South Sea to abandon blockading northern trade routes and redeploy southward to support the Fourth Legion in crushing Hariman’s forces.

The sudden withdrawal of the South Sea fleets didn’t go unnoticed. Gabrilles seized the opportunity. He ordered the remnants of the Second South Sea Fleet and the Southern Sunaru Alliance to harry the retreating 508th and 608th Divisions westward while commanding the First and Second North Sea Fleets to advance south, aiming to encircle the Fourth Legion, the South Sea fleets, and the two armored divisions in southwestern Odin.

With internal revolts brewing and external assaults imminent, the government forces seemed doomed. Of course, Aldrich still held his Second Legion in reserve—but using it meant risking the loss of his own stronghold.

Gabrilles envisioned victory: Charles’ triumphant anthem ringing in his ears, medals gleaming on his chest pinned by the old general, and the envious stares of comrades burning holes in his back. Yet, amidst these fantasies, he overlooked one crucial detail—Aldrich was a man without fear or restraint, a brilliant tactician willing to do whatever it took to win.

The First and Second North Sea Fleets sailed south but found no trace of the government fleet along Odin’s southern shores. Meanwhile, the remnants of the Second South Sea Fleet and the Southern Sunaru Alliance pursued the 508th and 608th Divisions relentlessly—only to lose them entirely. At the same time, the forces that had previously pinned down Hariman vanished without a trace.

The battlefield grew murky, yet Gabrilles took solace in one victory: laborers at the resource bases had seized key armories and naval ports without losing a single soldier.

This unexpected triumph intoxicated many, and Joseph and Gabrilles nearly popped champagne corks in celebration. Then, something utterly unforeseen occurred—a catastrophic tsunami swept across Odin’s southern coastline, devastating the entire region.

The First and Second North Sea Fleets, remnants of the Second South Sea Fleet, the Southern Sunaru Alliance, and laborers stationed at captured ports—all suffered catastrophic losses simultaneously. Ships sank, soldiers perished, and combat effectiveness plummeted to less than ten percent. Just then, the government’s missing troops reemerged, decimating the rebels’ southwestern presence. Even Hariman’s northwest forces crumbled under the combined assault of the Third and Fourth Legions, leaving fields littered with corpses.

In an instant, all advantages were lost. News of the disaster sent shockwaves through the Arctic, leaving Gabrilles dumbfounded. Marion’s years of painstakingly planted operatives were nearly wiped out, leaving only the Northern Sunaru Alliance and Droznyr port as remnants of the rebellion in Odin.

It was over. Everything was over. Though Virginia’s presence prevented outright chaos in the Arctic Command, there was no clear path forward.

Later, through covert channels, Gabrilles uncovered the truth: Aldrich had orchestrated the entire calamity. Sacrificing the southwestern resource bases, he’d detonated explosives deep beneath the continental shelf, triggering a chain reaction that unleashed a devastating tsunami. The rebel fleets, laborers, and alliances stationed along the coast bore the brunt of the destruction, crippling the Krotan uprising irreparably.

Aldrich was ruthless, decisive, and acutely aware of the importance of speed. After clearing the southwest, he bypassed smaller rebel factions, focusing instead on assembling a cross-sea expeditionary force comprising Freyr’s air power, Sarrolhas’ submarine contingents, the First and Third South Sea Fleets, and parts of the Second, Third, and Fourth Legions. With overwhelming force, he launched a direct assault on the Arctic Command.

Gabrilles and Joseph were paralyzed. Only through Virginia and Shi Huaqing’s efforts was Marion finally released to retake control of the rebellion.

But even Marion, weathered by countless storms, was stumped. Trapped within the Arctic Circle, surrounded by Aldrich’s tightening noose, escape seemed impossible. Fighting was futile, fleeing unthinkable. The only option left was mutual annihilation.

Marion ordered Shi Huaqing, Virginia, and others to flee before Aldrich sealed off the perimeter entirely. No one obeyed. No one abandoned their comrades. Eventually, Marion spoke privately with Virginia, persuading her to escort Claire and others out via secret passages. Claire assumed she’d accompany them but soon realized Virginia had returned to the Arctic after ensuring the younger members joined Phillip’s trading group safely.

“So that’s how it is…” Tang Fang furrowed his brow as Claire finished recounting events. He recalled hearing about the tsunami from Emma, who monitored satellite communications. Civilian satellites reported it as a natural disaster, failing to raise suspicions.

But according to Claire, the tsunami wasn’t nature’s wrath—it was a calculated military strike. Moreover, during the past eight days, polar-orbiting military satellites above Freyr hadn’t detected any strategic movements by Aldrich’s forces. Tang Fang deduced the obvious: Aldrich must have uncovered part of his capabilities, realizing satellite communications were compromised and switching to alternative methods.

Indeed, Aldrich was no ordinary adversary.

“Talosal, please… you’re our only hope. Save General Marion, save Aunt Virginia. I don’t know who else can help us…” Claire clutched Tang Fang’s wrist desperately, her pale fingers digging into his skin.
