Chapter 131: Radar?
As he pondered over a solution, Tang Fang's communicator buzzed with the voices of Arroz and Grant. They were close to the eastern and western edges of the base, respectively, and were asking for further instructions.
Tang Fang scanned his surroundings, his gaze finally settling on a distant radar antenna. Although this was merely an airbase meant for brigade-level operations, it had no shortage of radar systems—phased-array radars, fire-control radars, millimeter-wave radars, even LiDAR. Everything you could think of was there.
Suddenly, an idea struck him. In theory, it should work.
"Do any of you know where the radar control room is?" Tang Fang asked abruptly.
"Radar control room?" Pitman couldn't guess what Tang Fang was up to but answered seriously, "Yes, we do. The special ops command center is located there."
"If you know where it is, then that makes things easier," Tang Fang replied.
"But wait," Pitman interjected. "What do you need the radar control room for? When we attacked the base earlier, we cut off power to all the radar arrays outside. The control room is basically useless now."
Tang Fang gave a faint smile. "That's not a problem. If the power's been cut, we'll just have to restore it."
"Restore it? You must be joking." Pitman's face twisted with apprehension. "Not to mention the heavily armed 'Heavy Armor Warriors' patrolling everywhere, but even the government troops holed up in the buildings across from us won’t just let us wander around the base at our leisure."
Xia Yuanhua, ever the straightforward man, immediately grew serious upon hearing Tang Fang had a plan to break the deadlock. "Tell us, what do you want us to do?"
"You don't need to do anything," Tang Fang said calmly. "Just stay here and wait for me to return."
Pitman and Xia Yuanhua exchanged glances. There were at least a dozen radar arrays surrounding the base. Restoring the entire power system would take ages, even with two people working on it.
As if reading their thoughts, Tang Fang clapped his hands, and from the shadows emerged other soldiers who had been hiding behind the buildings. They gathered around the weather monitoring station.
Through the glass windows on either side of the room, Xia Yuanhua saw dozens of soldiers dressed similarly to them. His throat tightened as he swallowed hard. So they weren’t alone—there were many more of them. Advanced weaponry, cold expressions, an imposing presence like a mountain, and perfectly synchronized movements. Whoever these men were, they were a force to be reckoned with—a pack of wolves far superior to the rebel miners or even the special forces.
A flicker of hope ignited in Xia Yuanhua’s heart. With these men protecting them, what were the base defenders compared to them? What were even the 'Heavy Armor Warriors'?
As if deliberately dropping another bombshell, Tang Fang spoke again into the communicator. "Arroz, take your team to the east side and repair the phased-array radars. Grant, you lead the others and handle the targeting and fire-control radars on the west side."
"Understood," came the replies from Arroz and Grant.
But that wasn’t all. There were more teams. Just the group before them numbered nearly forty. Add in the other teams, and there had to be at least a full company of soldiers.
Keep in mind, earlier, only two men had managed to take down a 'Heavy Armor Warrior.' Their individual combat capabilities were nothing short of terrifying. With over a hundred soldiers like this, what chance did the base defenders stand? They wouldn’t even be enough to fill the gaps between their teeth.
"All right, just stay put and wait," Tang Fang instructed Pitman and Xia Yuanhua before waving to Housen. He stepped out of the weather monitoring station and strode confidently toward the opposite side of the base.
Crossing the taxiway and the runway, a sudden flash of gunfire erupted from the middle floor of the watchtower. A hail of bullets ricocheted off the heavy armor plating of the marauders ahead, sparking like fireworks.
Without needing orders, two marauders raised their arms slightly, launching four Judicator grenades. The projectiles shattered the glass windows and detonated with a deafening roar, engulfing the area in flames. One government soldier was hurled into the air by the blast, spinning helplessly before crashing onto the road below like a ragdoll, his body reduced to a bloody mess.
At the same time, two 'Heavy Armor Warriors' emerged from the alley beside the watchtower, shifting into combat mode. Their arm-mounted machine guns roared to life, and a barrage of cluster rockets streaked toward Tang Fang's group.
Under Tang Fang and Housen’s leadership, nearly forty human soldiers spread out, splitting into two teams. Weapons blazed as they returned fire with equal ferocity.
Judicator grenades exploded against the 'Heavy Armor Warriors,' peppering their once-smooth exteriors with craters. Marine rifles spat streams of bullets, turning the machines’ front sections into pockmarked wrecks.
Sparks flew as the left 'Heavy Armor Warrior' began to malfunction, its movements growing erratic. Then, with a final burst of electricity, its power system failed, leaving it immobile.
The right 'Heavy Armor Warrior,' however, met a more dramatic end. A metal spike lodged just above its load-bearing chassis acted like the firing pin of an old revolver, triggering the warhead of a neutron bomb. A chain reaction of explosions lit up the sky, sending mushroom clouds billowing outward. Neutron detection alarms blared as waves of deadly neutrons surged in all directions.
Housen led a few marines forward, activating spray devices to douse the area with neutralizing fluid.
Once the neutron levels had dropped, Tang Fang nodded to Housen and gestured toward the two high platforms at the rear of the building complex, each topped with radar antennas. The two groups split up, heading in opposite directions.
Behind the watchtower lay rows of neatly arranged warehouses. Through half-lowered blast doors, Tang Fang could see tires, hooks, and lifting frames—equipment likely used for maintenance vehicles.
After parting ways with Housen, Tang Fang led his team toward the left side, skirting along the vehicle garages until they reached the southwestern corner of the building complex. As they rounded a bend, about a hundred meters in, something at the far end of the alley caught Tang Fang’s attention.
A 'Heavy Armor Warrior,' transformed into its tank configuration, stood before four figures.
By the time Tang Fang and his men emerged from the corner, the 'Heavy Armor Warrior' had already adjusted its cannon angle and fired a neutron bomb directly at the feet of the three individuals standing opposite it.
The figure closest to them wore a suit of "Guardian Knight" armor, clearly a member of the Northern Sunaru Alliance special forces. Behind him were two others dressed in the rough garb of rebel miners.
Facing the incoming neutron bomb, the armored soldier shouted, "Run!" Pushing the two miners behind him, he dove toward the point where the bomb would land.
The explosion sent a shockwave rippling through the air, blasting the powered armor backward. Though the thermal and explosive effects of a neutron bomb were relatively weak compared to hydrogen or atomic bombs, the impact still gouged a two-inch-deep crater into the reinforced concrete. Smoke and dust filled the air, along with lethal streams of fast and slow neutrons.
"Bastard!" Tang Fang roared. He and his men opened fire, their weapons spitting streams of red-hot fury. The 'Heavy Armor Warrior' shuddered under the onslaught, its metal shell ringing like a gong under the relentless barrage.
Back at Makanda Arsenal, Tang Fang had already felt a deep sense of respect for these rebels. They might have been farmers, miners, craftsmen, or even unemployed vagrants—ordinary people with little training or combat experience—but they were united by ideals, determination, and loyalty.
Faced with Colcrav I's tyranny and the razor-sharp edge of the "Celtic" regime, they dared to rise up, using their flesh-and-blood bodies to bear the flag of rebellion. Compared to those who remained passive and indifferent, these rebels radiated a soulful brilliance—a light so bright that anyone with a heart full of passion and integrity couldn’t help but consider them friends, even comrades worthy of risking their lives for.
In their ranks, Tang Fang saw what it meant to truly live, to unite as one. Like brothers bound by blood, they may not have seen each other often or shared much in common, but when enemies stormed into their homes, staining their faces with the blood of loved ones, their hearts beat as one. With fists, teeth, and even their skulls, they would smash through every obstacle and shatter every bone of their foes.
"Ahh!" C-14 "Impaler" rifles unleashed torrents of bullets. Within seconds, the battered 'Heavy Armor Warrior' twitched violently before collapsing into a heap of scrap metal.
Leaving his men to deal with the aftermath, Tang Fang hurried past the disabled machine and approached the fallen special forces soldier, who lay seven meters from the blast site. Despite the intense shockwave, the "Guardian Knight" armor showed only minor deformation.
"Wake up… wake up…" Tang Fang shook the man gently, but there was no response.
Just as he was about to remove the helmet, he remembered the dangerously high neutron levels. Standing up, Tang Fang activated the spray nozzle on his chest, dousing the area with neutralizing fluid. Midway through, he heard splashing sounds and turned to see that the soldier had pushed the two miners into a drainage ditch moments before the bomb detonated.
The thick, reinforced concrete shielded most of the neutron radiation, while the water slowed the remaining fast neutrons. Miraculously, the two miners had survived without fatal exposure.
"Don’t move yet! Wait until the neutron levels drop!" Tang Fang barked as the two men tried to emerge from the ditch. They froze instantly.
As the neutralizing fluid continued to rain down, the neutron levels plummeted rapidly, reaching tolerable levels within seconds.
"All right, come out!" Tang Fang called to the pair, who cautiously climbed out of the ditch. Turning back to the fallen soldier, he removed the man’s helmet.
Beneath it was a Black man, his face free of pallor or jaundice but marked by cracked lips, a furrowed brow, and obvious signs of immense pain.
Taking a deep breath, Tang Fang peeled back the shoulder armor and inserted a diagnostic device into the soldier’s arm. The results were grim: a neutron absorption dose of 6.7 Sv. Without top-notch medical care, the man would endure months of agony before succumbing to radiation sickness.
Could they rely on the government to provide medical aid to rebel soldiers? Not a chance.
