Chapter 120: Total Annihilation?
Tang Fang shrugged nonchalantly, spinning a tale on the spot. "Well, our ship crashed. Talos, Taloso, and I got separated from them. Now we've just managed to regroup."
"Oh, I see," Grant nodded.
"But why are there only a few of you? Where are Talos and Taloso?"
"They're at the sewage treatment plant. Come on, I'll take you there." With that, Grant led the way, heading northwest. Tang Fang gave an affirmative grunt and quickened his pace to catch up.
Little Sam, still full of youthful innocence, trailed behind one of the marines, weaving around curiously. He poked here and tapped there, his eyes wide with wonder. "I can't wait until I'm old enough to wear power armor like this."
By now, Arroz and Housen's squads had become idols in the hearts of every member of the Northern Sunaru Alliance. To fight as bravely as they did was the dream of every soldier.
"You're still young," Tang Fang said, ruffling the boy's hair and sighing softly. If he could, he wished Sam would never have the chance to don such armor.
Sam seemed greatly encouraged, circling Tang Fang with excitement. "Talosal, do you think when I grow up, I could be like you—a commander leading troops into battle?"
Tang Fang said with a smile. "Of course... definitely..."
As they spoke, they arrived at the sewage treatment pool in the northwest corner of the southern zone of the arsenal. A mixed force of marauders, marines, reapers, and soldiers from the Northern Sunaru Alliance had completely surrounded the area.
Arroz held a PDA in his hands, quietly discussing something with Stivie. Joey and Walton were the first to notice Tang Fang’s group approaching. "Look, it's Talosal!"
Hearing this, Arroz looked up and scanned the distance. There was Grant leading the way, followed by Tang Fang, Monroe, little Sam, and then a hundred marines.
Upon learning that Tang Fang had returned, Arroz, considering the complex terrain of the factory grounds, had sent Grant to meet him at the entrance for fear he might get lost. But no one expected over a hundred people to show up.
Stivie couldn’t help swallowing hard, taking a long moment to recover from the shock before stepping forward. He saluted crisply. "I am Stivie, commander of the second brigade of the Northern Sunaru Alliance. On behalf of all our soldiers, I extend my deepest gratitude for your assistance."
Though older—at over thirty—he showed not a trace of condescension or awkwardness toward Tang Fang, who was only twenty-four. Instead, his eyes reflected nothing but genuine appreciation.
"No need to thank me. I merely did what I thought was right." Tang Fang suddenly felt a pang of guilt for concealing his true identity. Perhaps, when leaving Planet Krotan, he could reveal his name to these brave men who dared to rise against oppression.
After shaking hands, Tang Fang turned to survey the soldiers gathered outside the sewage pool. Frowning slightly, he asked, "What’s going on? Isn’t the battle here finished yet?"
Arroz approached, holding the PDA displaying the underground piping layout of the sewage treatment plant. The screen was a tangled web of countless pipes crisscrossing each other.
"The remnants of the Sea Falcon Commandos retreated through here into the underground drainage system. The network down there is extremely complicated, and we only have thirty-six fighters capable of engaging the enemy. If we rush in blindly, we risk being stretched too thin. But if we bring in the rest of the alliance troops, any encounter with experienced divers among the Sea Falcons could lead to unnecessary casualties."
"However," Arroz added with a glance at the hundred marines behind Tang Fang, "now that you’re here, this problem is solved."
But Tang Fang didn’t respond. Instead, he reached out, took the PDA from Arroz’s hand, pressed the back button, and tossed it aside.
Stivie and the others exchanged puzzled glances. Even Arroz and Housen were baffled. Just let the Sea Falcon Commandos escape like that? What if they regrouped with the government navy above and launched another surprise attack under cover of darkness? That would surely result in fresh casualties.
"I understand your concerns, but there’s no need to worry. They won’t get another chance." Eight zealots were already waiting near the drainage outlets, while four zerglings had infiltrated the pipe network. In the dark, confined spaces beneath the water, facing both zealots and zerglings, death would be their only fate.
"I can assure you," Tang Fang continued calmly, "unless the commander of the 408th Division has lost his mind and decides to charge without naval artillery support, everyone here can sleep soundly tonight."
His tone was even, but to Stivie, Grant, and the others, it hit like a thunderclap. What did he mean? What about the fleets on the surface? Had they all withdrawn? It wasn’t like the government forces to abandon such an advantageous position so easily.
"Tal… Talosal," Grant stammered, voicing the question on everyone’s mind. "What… what do you mean?"
"In simple terms," Tang Fang replied, "you will never see that naval fleet on any battlefield again."
As soon as the words left his mouth, the expressions of Stivie, Grant, Shunette, Monroe, Joey, and even Arroz and Housen changed dramatically—some stunned, some shocked, some confused, and others utterly disbelieving.
Though phrased delicately, the meaning was clear to everyone. The naval force that had nearly driven the Northern Sunaru Alliance to ruin in Loot Bay… was gone. Totally annihilated.
Ever since Housen led his marauders in a charge, Stivie and the others had wondered why the bombardment from the sea had suddenly ceased. But no one had imagined, nor dared to imagine, that the fleet pressing them so relentlessly had met its doom.
It must have been him. Who else could it be? Otherwise, how could he speak with such certainty?
With just a hundred-man team, he had somehow destroyed an entire destroyer squadron. How… how was that possible?
Grant stared blankly at Tang Fang, this young man he’d only recently met. In just over two hours, he had delivered shock after shock.
Eliminating Venom Scythe and Locust Swarm, routing the Sea Falcon Commandos, and now wiping out an entire government destroyer squadron—all increasingly impressive, all increasingly awe-inspiring. Just how much power did this man possess?
"Do you… do you have some other allies helping you?" No matter how he thought about it, it seemed impossible for a mere hundred-strong ground unit to defeat a mixed naval fleet of submarines, warships, and armed aircraft.
Tang Fang merely smiled ambiguously, offering no reply. If they wanted to believe he had hidden reinforcements, it worked to his advantage. After all, who knew when the number of soldiers under his command might increase—or double, triple, or evolve into entirely new forms?
"Come on, Grant. It’s time to introduce me to Colonel Montgomery." With that, Tang Fang waved to Arroz and Housen and turned toward the core area of the arsenal.
Only after the trio had walked far ahead did Grant, Stivie, and the others snap out of their daze. They quickly handed off command duties to their deputies and hurried to catch up.
On the way to the command center, Tang Fang issued orders to his marines, sending them to assist Stivie’s men with post-battle cleanup.
The Makanda campaign had left heavy casualties on both the Northern Sunaru Alliance and the Sea Falcon Commandos. Translated into resources, it would amount to a significant haul…
