Chapter 107: Luring the Snake Out Part 7
The Golden Apple, one of the mythical-tier special items from the past. The fate talent it unlocked, Golden Revelation, granted the ability known as Golden Tree’s Leaf. This was no ordinary golden tree; it wasn’t the feeble Golden Magic Tree Brandon had encountered before. No, this referred to the true Golden Tree, a proper noun that denoted the World Tree, Mana, which grew by the Abyssal Lake and beneath the peak of the world. Mana was indeed considered one of the sources of golden bloodlines in Vonder. A talent bestowed by its leaves increased all attribute growth potential by 10% and amplified Spiritual Energy tenfold. Even in his past life, Brandon knew only a handful of top-tier elementalists who had acquired such a talent through quests. Back then, the Golden Apple was nothing more than a fleeting dream for him.
Yet here it was now, practically within arm's reach. With just a single confirmation, every stat—strength, constitution, agility, willpower, perception—would grow an additional 10%. Moreover, the enhancement to Spiritual Energy meant doubling his mana pool, while the passive skill Spiritual Veins—exclusive to white wizards and elven adepts—would allow him to cast three additional spells simultaneously. This talent was a godsend for spellcasting classes, especially those attuned to natural elements—it even bore another name: Fairy Tongue.
On authoritative analysis sites, the consensus rating for this talent was S+. Though slightly less impactful for Brandon's current warrior class, he understood its broader implications. Eventually, he would need to dabble in elementalism to complete his goal of mastering every class—his ultimate deck as a Planeswalker. And with its universal stat boost, it seemed tailor-made for him.
But without a moment’s hesitation, he firmly shook his head.
As enticing as the Golden Tree’s Leaf was, it wasn’t what he sought in this life. Brandon deeply understood that in this world, he had only one chance. Once chosen, there could be no turning back. He aimed solely for the best—or rather, the most fitting option for his plans. In his previous life, he might not have had the luxury to choose, but here, freed from competition with other players, countless opportunities lay before him.
And the Golden Tree’s Leaf? It was merely one of many appealing options.
He had two targets in mind:
First, Ancient One, which granted a 10% increase to all attributes and reduced multiclass penalties by 50%. Rated S, this talent was invaluable for someone like Brandon, who planned to juggle numerous classes. Its second attribute alone made it priceless.
Second, the legendary Twin Concord. Among the fabled talents of Amber Sword, this S-tier ability stood apart. Unlike most high-tier talents, Twin Concord had only one attribute—but what an attribute it was. For each class the user possessed, it enhanced a specific core ability. Brandon still vividly remembered the boon it provided warriors: Ancient Martial Technique. Specifically, any battle skill belonging to the warrior class would have its maximum mastery level effectively increased by one tier.
In the earlier version of the game, a skill's levels 1 to 5 were referred to as the Beginner stage, levels 5 to 10 as the Advanced stage, and levels beyond 10 as the Expert stage. Most non-specialized skills could only be upgraded to the peak of the Expert stage, which is level 15. Only specialized skills could advance beyond level 15, reaching the Master and Grandmaster stages. After awakening the Elemental Affinity, with the support of attribute points, skills that had reached the Grandmaster stage could be further enhanced but would ultimately stop at the 'Ancient/Sacred' stage.
For warriors, however, there was only one way to elevate skills beyond that—to the fabled Legendary tier—and that was through Twin Concord. Average skills at the legendary tier rivaled the strength of inherently superior abilities, making them absurdly powerful. Hypothetically, a character possessing both superior skills and Twin Concord would achieve unparalleled devastation once their abilities reached legendary status. But this remained purely theoretical. Superior skills and Twin Concord were equally rare, unattainable even for paying players. At this point, only the most absurdly lucky individuals—referred to by players as "face warriors"—could hope to achieve such a feat. To possess both Twin Concord and superior skills, while also ensuring those skills aligned with one's awakened elemental affinity (a prerequisite for investing elemental points), required a level of fortune so extraordinary that it bordered on the ridiculous.
Such otherworldly luck was akin to divine favor. Those blessed with it were often jokingly said to have been already whisked away to another world entirely, destined to conquer realms beyond imagination. For mere mortals, achieving even one of these conditions was a monumental challenge; fulfilling all three was practically inconceivable. Thus, Brandon had never seen such a case.
Given its rarity and power, Twin Concord was often hailed as a pseudo-SS-tier talent by players fond of multiclassing across a dozen professions. Above it lay only a few SS-tier talents like the Child of Marsha or the Cerulean Catastrophe—titles whispered about but never witnessed.
Brandon wasn’t greedy. He didn’t yearn for these mythical talents, suspecting some were fabrications by overzealous players. For him, Twin Concord or even Ancient One sufficed. Both were attainable; if others had obtained them before, he could replicate their methods.
Certainly, Golden Tree’s Leaf fell short. He wouldn’t squander his sole opportunity on something less suited to him. His earlier choice of Indomitable during the Buchi incident haunted him. Had he chosen Dragon’s Legacy or Bloodline Will, his combat prowess would have been 20–30% stronger today.
“I refuse activation,” Brandon thought, dodging a bolt of pure dark-element magic energy hurled by the Dark Priest.
Truthfully, even if the spell struck him, it would only break a bone or two. Given Brandon’s agility, the low-ranking Blackfire Dark Priest couldn’t hope to hit him. Yet both parties understood the spell’s purpose: quick casting speed forced Brandon to alter his trajectory, keeping him at bay.
Most of the Blackfire cultists surrounding the Dark Priest were dead or dying, leaving only a dozen trembling lizardfolk warriors. These creatures posed no threat to Brandon, and the Dark Priest knew it. Reluctantly relying on his own strength, he hurled a second bolt of magic energy, cursing inwardly about inaccurate intelligence. How had those twenty Silver Elves appeared? In fact, he still hadn’t realized he’d been outmaneuvered from the start.
Brandon remained calm.
“If you were five levels higher and had advanced into elven adepts,” he mused, “with the passive skill Spiritual Veins enabling dual incantations, I might worry about you combining low-tier spells with charged high-tier ones. But wasting stamina with weak spells? Do you think your mana reserves surpass my endurance?”
Meanwhile, the green text fading from his vision gave way to a new message:
“Detected character has reached Level 25. Bloodline Talent unlocked for the second time.”
“Indomitable (Lv2): Player gains +5 elemental resistance and reduces physical damage taken by 5%.”
Brandon found the tank-focused talent somewhat ironic. While strong for tanks, warriors in Amber Sword were never designed as frontline shields, let alone mercenaries with versatile offense. Choosing this talent in haste during Buchi now felt like a subtle jab at his expense. Who deliberately walked into enemy attacks?
The divided Silver Elves were herding the lizardfolk toward the slopes, while the Dark Priest finally noticed his blunder. The relentless barrage of magic energy bolts ceased, prompting Brandon to glance back. He saw the Dark Priest enveloped in swirling black smoke, channeling dark elements for a high-tier spell. But Brandon wasn’t a novice facing a boss fight for the first time. He wouldn’t waste precious moments deciphering intent.
With a swift swing of his sword, he unleashed a gust of wind pressure, sending straggling lizardfolk flying. Activating his charge ability, he streaked forward like a bolt of lightning. Before the lizardfolk guarding the Dark Priest could react, Brandon breached their ranks and stood beside the Blackfire Dark Priest.
Raising his sword, he delivered a full-force downward slash, Strength Surge amplifying its power. A resounding crack echoed as the blade struck a sudden, ink-black shield. Surprised, Brandon noticed the Dark Priest’s skeletal hand extend from his robes, conjuring the barrier wreathed in eerie light. Beneath the shadowy hood, the Dark Priest sneered, pointing a finger. A jet of black flame shot forth—
“Magic Energy Bolt.”
