Chapter 46: Very Well, Miss Yanyu

“No, that doesn’t feel quite right,” Gan Yanyu said hesitantly.

“Why not?” Lin Tian asked.

He remembered that Elder Wan Qi had called her by her given name before. To him, it sounded warm and natural enough to roll off the tongue easily.

“Only elders use that kind of address for me,” she explained softly.

Fair enough. If Yanyu didn’t like it, Lin Tian wasn’t going to push the matter further. “Then how about ‘Little Gan’?”

“It’s not a good fit.”

“What about ‘Sister Yu Zi’?”

“I’m younger than you.”

“Gan Yu?”

“Who’s that?”

“Lao Yu?”

“What does that even mean...?”

“In my hometown, when someone is close to you, we add ‘Lao’ to their name as a sign of affection,” Lin Tian explained earnestly.

“Then should I call you ‘Lao Tian’?” Gan Yanyu tilted her head with a playful smirk.

“Forget it.”

Lin Tian hadn’t exactly earned the honorific title of “Lao” yet, especially not in the legendary sense of being indestructible.

Unable to find any other suitable nickname, Lin Tian was at a loss. “Actually… it’s okay to call me ‘Yanyu’” Gan Yanyu murmured while twirling her hair nervously.

“Alright, Yanyu,” Lin Tian immediately echoed.

“W-Wait!”

The moment Lin Tian spoke her name, Gan Yanyu’s face flushed bright red, and she instantly regretted her suggestion.

“Just call me Gan Yanyu or Miss Gan during normal times,” she quickly amended.

Many of her elders and close friends from the past used these titles, and she'd always found them perfectly comfortable. But hearing her name from Lin Tian’s lips made her inexplicably flustered. It wasn’t dislike—it just felt… strange.

“So when can I call you ‘Yanyu’?” Lin Tian teased.

“When we’re creating music together,” Gan Yanyu whispered shyly.

“Alright, Yanyu.”

“I said only during creative sessions!”

Turning her head away, Gan Yanyu tried to hide her embarrassment.

“No problem, Yanyu.”

“…”

With her face buried in her hands, Gan Yanyu resembled a startled rabbit, curling into herself.

Lin Tian chuckled silently.

See? She really was entertaining—like an unpredictable robot programmed with quirks.

But before Lin Tian could revel in his amusement for long, Gan Yanyu slowly parted her fingers, peeking through the gap. Her beautiful eyes locked onto him intently.

“What about me? What should I call you?” she asked.

“Just call me Lin Tian,” he replied casually.

His name lacked flair—it was straightforward, easy to pronounce, and left little room for creative interpretation.

“Tian…” Gan Yanyu suddenly murmured softly under her breath.

Though barely audible, the warmth in her voice reached Lin Tian’s ears clearly.

His eyes widened instantly, snapping fully awake.

“Does it sound strange?” Gan Yanyu asked uncertainly.

Lin Tian shook his head.

Lost in thought, Gan Yanyu clasped her hands behind her back. Her delicate features shifted between contemplation and realization as if savoring something sweet. Then, leaning forward abruptly, she called out tentatively:

“Tian?”

“…”

“Wait, wait!”

Lin Tian waved his hands frantically. “You’d better stick to calling me Lin Tian.”

The impact was simply too overwhelming. He had to admit, hearing his single-character name roll off Gan Yanyu’s tongue carried a certain indescribable thrill.

But if she kept using it, Lin Tian feared he wouldn’t be able to handle it. His imagination kept conjuring images of a doting wife clinging to his arm, cooing his name in a teasing tone.

Clearly, this level of intimacy was premature.

“Alright.”

Seeing Lin Tian’s resistance, Gan Yanyu pursed her lips and stopped pushing the issue.

However, after their mutual confessions earlier, both felt significantly lighter. They realized that as partners, open communication truly was key.

Taking advantage of the moment, Lin Tian smoothly inquired, “So, Teacher Yanyu, would staying for a drink now count as crossing the line?”

“As much as I’d love to, it’s getting late. Let’s save it for another time,” she replied.

“Fair enough.”

After all, they’d already spent over half an hour chatting near the door. At this hour, insisting she stay would have been inappropriate. Besides, Lin Tian had achieved his goal of clearing the air with Gan Yanyu; whether she stayed or left no longer mattered.

“How about tomorrow night?” Gan Yanyu suggested, perhaps feeling guilty for sounding vague earlier.

“Since I’ll be cooking dinner for you tomorrow anyway, we might as well have a drink together then.”

“Sounds good.”

“Great, then I’ll take my leave now.”

“Bye.”

“Bye~”

Ganyu turned around, gripping the doorknob. Before stepping out, she glanced back once more at Lin Tian, ensuring he wouldn’t pull another surprise move. Satisfied, she carefully stepped outside and closed the door behind her.

---

The first rays of dawn filtered into Lin Tian’s room, spilling golden light across his bedsheet.

“Buzz—buzz—”

“Buzz—buzz—”

Vibrations jolted Lin Tian awake, shaking him like an insistent hand choking his neck. Groggily, he reached for his phone on the pillow.

He initially assumed it was a call but instead found a flood of notifications from Tiktok’s backend messages.

Tapping in, he froze.

His heart skipped a beat as he stared wide-eyed at the screen.

Can-can Dance Track

It went viral?!

410,000 likes. 6.24 million views.

A torrent of comments scrolled across the video like waves crashing against the shore.

"Who knows how many times I’ve listened to this."

"Oh my gosh, it’s so addictive!"

"This is the first time I’ve fallen in love with instrumental music."

"Wait, aren’t they high schoolers? How can they be this cool?"

"Haha, what fun! Looks like they were having a blast."

"..."

Revisiting the video alongside the barrage of comments, Lin Tian couldn’t help but burst into laughter. Last night, caught up in the excitement, neither of them noticed anything unusual while checking the footage. But watching it again now? He nearly lost it.

In the video, last night’s euphoric performance unfolded vividly. Lin Tian’s fingers flew across the piano keys, his entire body bouncing rhythmically like Tom Cat dancing—a tap here, a jump there. Meanwhile, usually reserved Gan Yanyu wasn’t faring much better. As she played the cello, her little head bobbed enthusiastically, her hair visibly bouncing despite the camera failing to capture her face.

Through the lens, the sheer joy emanating from the pair was palpable.

"Friend, looks like you’re always one step behind me. @XXX"

"Can-can Dance Track—what a hilarious name! No wonder it’s extraordinary."

"Wait, this is original music?! My goodness, who are these divine creators?"

"They look like such fun people. For the first time, I truly understand the happiness music brings."

"If only I knew how to play an instrument—I’d love to try something like this."

"..."

Opening his inbox, Lin Tian discovered his private messages were completely flooded. Among them, one stood out prominently: "Unive Official".

"Hello, we’re a music copyright company interested in purchasing your song’s rights for 200,000 yuan. Can we discuss?"
