Chapter 34: Absolutely Mind-Blowing

[Acquired usable anomaly: Anomalous-colored Badge "Materialist Soul (Crimson)" Hidden Attribute activated]

[Materialist Soul (Anomalous Color · Crimson · Unupgradable): ……]

[Equipping Effect: ……]

[Upgrade Path: ……]

[Hidden Attribute: +2 badge slots, current number of slots: 5, total anomalies required to unlock the next slot: 4]

[Your Contamination Value has increased.]

[Current Contamination Value: 0.9]

……

After carefully examining the description of the “Witch’s Broom,” particularly the Contamination Value of 0.5, Leon couldn’t help but turn his gaze toward the black goat sitting on the desk. His expression was a complicated mix of emotions.

You’re really weak, aren’t you?

Day in and day out, you boast about being some great Greater Demon, looking down on everyone and everything. And yet, your Contamination Value can’t even match that of a broom?

Do you realize that if you hadn’t just “leveled up” yesterday, your Contamination Value would’ve been only one-fifth of this broom’s? One measly broom could equal five Greater Demons like you… It’s almost laughable how weak you are.

“What are you staring at?!”

After locking eyes with Leon for a moment, the black goat—still bearing a shoe print on its face—felt as though it had been stabbed by the look in Leon’s eyes. Its neck stiffened as it glared back, barking angrily:

“Are you looking down on me now? You ungrateful bastard! We’ve been through life-and-death situations together, remember?!

“When that old man nearly killed you, who do you think took the hit for you? And now that you’ve got some shiny new anomaly, you’re just gonna toss me aside?”

“No, no, not at all.”

Though the goat was an insufferable loudmouth, always trying to tempt him into doing bad things, it had indeed saved his life once. Being the kind-hearted and sentimental person he was, Leon could only avert his gaze and lie through his teeth:

“You’ve got it all wrong. I’m not looking down on you because you’re weak… Really, I’m not.”

“……”

Then why the hell won’t you look at me while saying that?!

If Leon had outright mocked the goat for being weak, it might not have felt so insulted. After all, when it came to verbal sparring, the black goat had never backed down from anyone.

But Leon’s sympathetic demeanor, born out of pity for the goat’s pitiful state, was like rubbing salt in the wound. It was as if he’d said, “I’m sorry,” followed by a dismissive, “There, happy now?” This instantly shattered what little remained of the goat’s pride as a Greater Demon.

“Don’t underestimate demons!”

With a loud thud, the goat tumbled off the desk, its mental state crumbling. Rolling around on the carpet in frustration, it shouted:

“I’m a real Greater Demon! One of the most powerful ones in the entire Abyss!”

“Uh-huh, sure. I believe you. Your abilities are actually pretty impressive.”

“Arghhhhh!!!”

Leon’s indifferent attitude made the goat’s head throb with anger as it screamed incoherently:

“You brat… I was ambushed right after arriving here! My heart, my eyes, my stomach—they all got ripped out of me! And these horns? Ruined by that damn red-haired woman!

“Don’t judge me based on how I am now! If you can find all my missing parts, I’ll be the strongest anomaly in the Cleansing Bureau—top ten, maybe thirty at least!!”

“……”

So you’re part of a demon-themed set?

While Leon didn’t fully buy the goat’s shaky claim of being “top thirty,” the idea that there might be other related anomalies besides the [Demon Horns] piqued his interest.

The Silver Badge [Friend of Demons] boosted affinity with anomalies marked with the “Corruption” tag, reduced usage costs, and significantly enhanced their effects.

This meant that anomalies like [Demon Heart], [Demon Stomach], [Demon Horns], and [Demon Eyes] would synergize exceptionally well with him. Once acquired, they could rapidly increase his power!

“Tell me more.”

After picking up the goat’s head and placing it back on the desk, Leon momentarily set aside his newfound treasure and turned his attention to the old companion with genuine curiosity:

“How many anomalies were taken from you in total? And where should I start looking for them?”

“If you’re interested…” The goat perked up upon noticing Leon’s enthusiasm, launching into an exaggerated boast:

“Including these horns, there should be seven pieces in total! At the height of my power, I was only slightly weaker than evil god-tier beings! As one of the top-tier Greater Demons, my very body was the embodiment of ultimate sin!”

“My horns are weapons of battle, symbolizing wrath and war. My heart represents ambition, embodying pride and rebellion. My eyes are twisted willpower, standing for envy and desire.

“My stomach embodies greed and conquest; my tongue signifies gluttony and desolation; my tail represents sloth and secrecy…

“Listen up, kid! If you manage to gather all of me, your strength will easily place you among the top tier of the Cleansing Bureau. Even that red-haired woman won’t stand a chance against you!”

“……”

Hold on a second. Something doesn’t add up here.

Horns, heart, eyes, stomach, tongue, tail… That’s only six. What about the seventh?

Frowning, Leon asked skeptically:

“Aren’t you missing one? What’s the last piece?”

“The last one… isn’t urgent…” The goat hesitated, mumbling awkwardly:

“That anomaly was completely destroyed back then. It’s probably still recovering somewhere. We can worry about finding it later…”

“It may not be urgent, but you still need to tell me what it is.”

“……”

“Why are you stammering?”

“……”

“Well? Why are you hiding this last one?”

Under Leon’s relentless questioning, the goat reluctantly revealed the truth about the final anomaly:

“The last one… is my whip… It represents lust and copulation…”

“……”

Seriously… Can’t you see I don’t want to talk about it? Why do you keep prying?

Shooting Leon a glare for bringing up the uncomfortable topic, the goat grumbled sullenly:

“As for how to retrieve the others… After I was ambushed, those bastards subdued me while I was weak and started dismantling me piece by piece.

“I was terrified they’d kill me outright, so when they got close to taking that last part, I gritted my teeth and detonated it myself. The explosion scattered the other six anomalies far and wide. To this day, I have no idea where they ended up.

“All I remember is landing somewhere and latching onto the first available host. Then I made the host run for their lives, dodging and hiding for who knows how long.

“Eventually, when it seemed like no one was chasing us anymore, I tried causing a bit of trouble to regain some strength. But then that damn red-haired woman caught me and beat me into this sorry state… What’s wrong with you now?”

Noticing Leon’s expression shift repeatedly—from disdain to shock, from shock to disbelief, and finally to admiration—the goat grew uneasy. It stopped reminiscing and eyed him warily:

“Kid? Why are you looking at me like that?”

Why am I looking at you like this? It’s simple—because I’m impressed! Forget everything else for a moment. Isn’t your absolutely mind-blowing decision to self-destruct rather than submit worthy of some respect?
