Chapter 10: Battlefield First Aid

Su Fei stared at his attributes for a while, but ultimately didn't make a decision. It was better to take it one step at a time; after all, it wasn't the time to decide yet.

However, he had to use the ten points of skill experience he gained from leveling up as a militiaman immediately. After all, in such a dangerous environment, having extra strength would be useful. Learning swordsmanship or combat skills seemed like a good plan, as any ordinary person would choose. But Su Fei hesitated for a moment and thought of something else.

So, as he let the data fade from his retinas, he looked up at the others. He noticed that the young militia members were still immersed in their previous excitement. He was slightly surprised, but then his face turned serious.

This wasn't a good sign.

He signaled Roma to help him up a bit and raised his voice, asking, "Do you think it's safe now?"

His voice wasn't loud, but it caused everyone present to freeze, and the surroundings became silent.

Su Fei still had some authority, and these young militia members hadn't forgotten who had guided them to victory before. Wasn't his warning from earlier now turning into reality? They suddenly realized that it wasn't a time for celebration. The situation was serious, and it felt odd to be rejoicing while still in danger.

So, everyone stopped in unison and turned their gaze toward him. Despite Su Fei being weak, he had an aura that could lead them to victory.

Everyone thought so.

Even Freya couldn't help but sigh lightly. It was supposed to be her responsibility, but she, like her teammates, had failed to control her emotions and momentarily forgot her duty as chief commander.

Thinking about this, the girl with the long ponytail couldn't help but show a look of self-blame.

"Bandage the wounds, clean up the battlefield, think about what you learned in training. Do I need to remind you?" Su Fei sighed too.

These youngsters were even more clueless than rookies, but luckily, their physical fitness was much better than ordinary NPCs. Of course, that was only compared to NPCs; compared to players, they were nothing. They were made to be heroes after all. Just think about those initial attributes and growth of players—no, better not dwell on that.

Su Fei couldn't help but rub his forehead.

Under his guidance, the young militia members of Buchi began to act. The injured needed to be treated and wounds cleaned, and the swords and armor of those skeletal soldiers could be salvaged. Chainmail was much better in terms of protection than their leather armor.

Some others, under Su Fei's guidance, extinguished the campfire. This actually made him a bit speechless—lighting a campfire behind enemy lines, what were these guys thinking?

Freya initially wanted to see if there was anything she could help with. After all, Su Fei wasn't familiar with them, right? But she quickly realized that there was no need. No matter which aspect, the young man named Brandon was much more considerate than her.

She couldn't help but fiddle with her long ponytail, feeling puzzled: why was there such a big difference between the militiamen of Braggs and Buchi?

Freya had never thought that city folks could be stronger than them. But now, in front of Su Fei, she couldn't help feeling disheartened.

Why was it like this?

In comparison, Miss Roma had fewer concerns. She had already enthusiastically joined the others in sorting out the spoils of war. It seemed that this future merchant girl was only interested in this.

Su Fei, however, noticed that the boy named Phineas had run over to the unconscious Jason by himself. He looked up and asked everyone, "What should we do about Jason?"

This question caught everyone off guard.

For a moment, an unusual silence spread among them.

Indeed, they were all young people who knew each other from the same village, familiar with each other. They could be considered good friends. Jason was the most timid among them, but they never expected him to do something like this.

Although he was forced, his actions felt like betrayal and hurt them deeply. It was as if their simple world had cracked open, giving rise to distrust among them.

Even Freya didn't know how to deal with the loss of trust between people. She wanted to protect each companion, but Jason not only hurt others but also deeply wounded himself.

Although she wanted to speak, she wasn't sure if she could convince others.

Once she spoke, the harmonious relationship between friends might never be the same again.

Everyone had the same thought; after all, they were just young people, with both vulnerability and strength coexisting within them. They hesitated and instinctively looked at the only outsider present.

Su Fei couldn't help but sigh.

"Miss Freya?" So he asked Freya.

"I... I don't know..."

"Then, bandage him up. We don't even know if he'll stop bleeding; he might die before sunrise." Su Fei sighed once more. He wondered why he was so calm. Wasn't he also seeing a dead person for the first time?

Everyone breathed a sigh of relief in unison; it was Su Fei's order, and all they had to do was follow it.

It was a form of escapism, but sometimes people had to rely on it.

Meanwhile, Su Fei gestured for Freya to come over, prompting the latter to fall into a moment of daze before looking at him strangely.

"You know first aid, right, Miss Freya?" Su Fei asked.

"Just call me Freya," Freya nodded. "I learned a bit from Chief Marden."

"Chief Marden? No way, I didn't know that old guy also taught first aid." Su Fei was slightly surprised.

In the game, the first NPC to train first aid in the Goran-Elsun region was Doctor Borg from Ridenburg. He would give players a quest to collect 50 bundles of flax, which was simply outrageous. As a result, many people skipped Braggs altogether and went straight to the Temple of Flames, where they only needed to pay ten silver coins.

Although the market price of 50 bundles of flax wasn't much different from ten silver coins, the process was much more complicated.

This was an undiscovered secret! Su Fei was excited, but before he could revel in it, he suddenly remembered that he could no longer go back.

What was he even excited about? He immediately felt disappointed and lost interest. "Could you tell me about it?" he asked.

Freya took a deep breath and gritted her teeth, glaring at Su Fei. The man had said that her skills were lacking before, but now he wanted her to teach him? But fortunately, she wasn't one to hold a grudge. After thinking for a moment, she asked, "What do you want to know?"

"The techniques and essentials."

Freya didn't answer immediately but went to check on the girl who had fainted out of fear. Roma had left her here while she went to collect the spoils.

Fortunately, it was just shock.

She turned back to look at pale-faced Su Fei and hesitated for a moment before saying. "Let me check your wound."

"No need, I know my own injuries."

"You..."

"Alright, what did you learn?" Su Fei changed the subject.

"Mainly techniques for bandaging and stopping bleeding, as well as cleaning wounds," Freya replied.

Su Fei's heart stirred, as if receiving a message through telepathy. It wasn't a voice or text, but he distinctly felt a message:

Freya is teaching you 'Battlefield First Aid', which requires 8 experience points to upgrade to level 0. Would you like to learn?

He let out a long sigh of relief. This was it! It was just like in the game. Naturally, he wanted to learn skills. But he hadn't expected it to be battlefield first aid, which was a pleasant surprise!

Battlefield first aid primarily focused on preventing blood loss and wound infections, significantly increasing both success rate and ignoring environmental factors, which was exactly what Su Fei urgently needed at the moment. He remembered that in the game, only the field priests accompanying the army from the Temple of Flames would teach field first aid, and players from the theological faction could learn this skill easily while other players would have to grind reputation for it.

But the fact that Marden could teach it was a big discovery. He agreed to the request in his mind while thinking about it. But immediately, another message responded:

No matching occupation found for field first aid. Would you like to assign it to an occupation?

This wasn't important, but Su Fei still casually assigned it to the militiaman occupation. Although field first aid wasn't a core skill for either militiaman or civilian, meaning leveling up would require double the experience points, militiaman as an occupation could level up, but civilian as a basic identity could not.

It was important to note that the skill level couldn't exceed that of the occupation itself.

On the side, Freya carefully explained the key points of bandaging techniques. However, she soon noticed that the young man lying on the ground had been staring at her blankly the whole time, seemingly without any response to her words.

She was taken aback for a moment, then felt a surge of anger rising from the bottom of her heart.

Was this guy trying to take advantage of her by pretending not to understand?

Freya clenched her fists, and even her long ponytail trembled with rage. How could this jerk behave like this? How could he betray Roma? She had clearly devoted all her attention to him!

Freya fought to maintain her composure, holding her hand out and waving it in front of Su Fei, who remained unresponsive.

If it wasn’t for the fact that the other person was still injured, she would have almost kicked him.

However, just at that moment, Su Fei's eyes flickered, and his gaze returned to clarity.

After allocating his skills, he felt a slight sense of satisfaction. Now that he had first aid skill, at least there would be a guarantee of endurance in the battles to come.

The team's ability to recover was an important criterion for survival, something seasoned players in the game wouldn't overlook, and Su Fei was no exception. That was why he gave up swordsmanship and combat skills in favor of first aid.

However, as he raised his head, he saw Freya looking at him with a displeased expression.

"What's wrong?" he couldn't help but be surprised.

"Are you even listening?" Freya gritted her teeth.

"Of course, I've already learned it," Su Fei replied matter-of-factly.

"You—" Freya was on the verge of snapping in her fury. "I haven't finished explaining, but you've already learned it?" She looked at him with a severe look of distrust.

"Yes."

Freya was reduced to silence, and just when he was about to retort, she heard someone shout from the other side, "Big sis, we can't stop Jason's bleeding. Can you come here and take a look…"

Freya  subconsciously turned her head, only to see Su Fei behind her saying, "Perfect timing. Shall I try it?"

"You?" Freya's face showed a serious look of doubt.

"Help me over there."

"You, don't overexert yourself."

"Then shall I ask Miss Roma to help me over?"

"Dream on. I won't let her get close to you again, you shameless scoundrel!" Freya refused with gritted teeth but still walked over to help Su Fei up.

"Shameless scoundrel?" Su Fei was puzzled. How did he suddenly gain an additional title?

"You know very well," she replied.

"Huh?"
