[CFCS] Chapter 153
Arc 11.8 - Game Developer
Translated by guilty
Jing Yang just found out that his system has a calming effect on his soul and could remove all fear and worry. Allowing him to believe that, even though there are still some unknowns, he can still manage everything until the truth is revealed.
After Jing Yang had calmed down, he went back to work as usual, speeding up the game's production so that the overtime work would be over.
He Lang practically came to bring Jing Yang dinner and ate with him every day. With such an obvious performance, those employees could see something is going on. They all believe this is the natural development of becoming the chairman's wife. So, they all thought that maybe they could save a lot of trouble if they became Jing Yang's people.
Every night, He Lang would personally send Jing Yang home. When Jing Yang was tired and fell asleep in his car, he just brought him upstairs and opened the door with his key. He would stay and sleep by his side if Jing Yang had not woken up.
Jing Yang was not surprised that he often wakes up with someone sleeping next to him. He is, on the other hand, amazed that every time He Lang stays, he is able to do nothing, he really just sleeps. It was truly incredible, and he wondered whether his own charm had faded.
He Lang, in fact, noticed that Jing Yang was working too hard and couldn't bear the thought of pushing him to work even harder.
The game "Conquer the Galaxy" made by Jing Yang and his team has finally been completed. Jing Yang decided to take a vacation and rest for a while. Weiyu and the rest of the team will be in charge of all follow-up tasks.
The company had already begun advertising before the game was done, and it will be publicly launched now. The various campaigns and commercials might be described as overwhelming. Such widespread exposure also shows Weiyu Group’s confidence in this massive multiplayer online game.
Despite the fact that "Conquer the Galaxy" has not yet been formally released, it has earned a lot of attention. Even individuals who do not enjoy playing online games repeatedly watch all versions of the advertisement as movies. Many people think it's a pity that this game hasn't been turned into a movie yet; the graphics as well as the plot are very appealing.
In addition to the general public's high interest, other game companies are also paying attention to this game. Of course, Xi Sheng Game Company is included. Their focus is higher than anyone else's because they are also currently creating a game; a massive multiplayer online game set in the interstellar age.
Xi Sheng has recruited a large number of high-paid employees from other companies. They originally intended to create a Xianxia game, and they are already working on it. But when Xi Rui saw the first commercial for "Conquer the Galaxy," he couldn't bring himself back to reality for a long time. The lifelike image appeared to suffocate his entire soul, and his emotions grew uncontrollable. Although he had no idea why he was so ecstatic, this isn't a simple excitement, in addition to the shock, he is experiencing an emotion that is unable to describe. An emotion of sadness and joy, pained and nostalgic at the same time.
Then Xi Rui told Du Jie and the newly hired employees that they needed to build a game set in the intergalactic era, and that it had to be better than "Conquer the Galaxy."
Due to Xi Rui's insistence, Du Jie and the others had to abandon their original plan and begin preparing for the new game all over again. Although it was the first time they conducted a game with an interstellar setting, Du Jie thought that Weiyu was also performing it for the first time. Furthermore, while remaining at Xi Sheng, Xi Le never created any games with an interstellar setting. It's impossible to say who performs better when it's everyone's first time. After all, Xi Sheng now has a lot of talented people.
However, after each "Conquer the Galaxy" ads aired, they couldn't help but feel ashamed and shocked. Whether the game is good or bad, advertising isn't particularly useful, the most important factor is the game's impact after it goes online. However, Du Jie and the others believed that it would be extremely impossible for them to win, at least in terms of the graphical element, as well as character design and storyline. So they could only improve in other technological aspects.
Although Du Jie and the others are extremely busy, Xi Rui, an amateur, still voices his ideas from time to time, forcing them to do what he wants.
Xi Rui took the first seat in the meeting room, staring at the art team with a serious expression and saying, "The background you created lacks the ambiance of the interstellar era, and the design of these characters and costumes is of poor quality. How many times do I have to tell you until you get it? Our game has to be more powerful than Weiyu's. How can we expect others to play our game if the background and character design aren't as good as theirs? If I major in art, I'll be able to design this better than all of you!"
Xi Rui really believes that if he were an arts student, he could be better than them. He always had visions of an enormous galaxy in his mind ever since he saw the ads of "Conquere the Galaxy," and the effects created by his art team have not even come close to the ideas in his mind. How could he be satisfied?
Everyone else at the conference table was deafeningly quiet. It wasn't the first time Xi Rui had said something like this, and the art team had adjusted the game several times to meet his demands, but he was still unhappy.
Xi Rui could only search for art problems because he didn't understand technical matters. However, he demanded others to listen to his instructions. On one hand, he just wanted to assume command. Now that he has his dream position, he must, of course, play it sufficiently. On the other hand, he wanted to make everyone aware of his strict requirements. He demanded the best from everyone, even if he didn't understand it fully.
"Everyone has given it their all, and they are currently doing well." Despite the fact that Du Jie speaks for others, there are already several disagreements among them. They've just formed a team of people who all believe they're really capable. They don't accept anyone's point of view and frequently disagree with each other. They were already exhausted when they were arguing, and they also had to listen to Xi Rui's words from time to time. Naturally, the number of people who were unsatisfied grew. If this continues, their games will never be finished, but just wasting time and money.
"Compare yourself to Weiyu's ads and see the gap; you'll know if you’re doing well or not!" Xi Rui had a hard expression on his face and a commanding attitude.
"No matter how good the publicity and advertising are, it can only be attractive for a limited time. The game itself will determine whether or not the player can be preserved. The larger and more luxurious the setting, the more issues will undoubtedly occur. When the time comes, more players will become unsatisfied and abandon their game, and they will lose. And we can keep the players if we do a good job with the technical aspects. In the end, they promoted aggressively, but it will be us who benefited from them."
Du Jie actually speaks for his own sake. He has the highest authority in this team, but he is unable to entirely control and manage them. He spoke for them to let them know that he was the only one who could talk in front of Xi Rui, so they should pay attention to his instructions and follow them.
Xi Rui finds Du Jie's words to be quite reasonable. The advertising is fantastic, who knows what the final result will be. If the gap is too big, he can't wait to see the joke.
As long as Xi Rui thinks Du Jie's words will come true, his mood instantly improves. Even things he didn't think good before, become very appealing to his eyes. After that, he didn't say anything else; instead, he told everyone to get to work and finish everything as soon as possible. They can't keep delaying their own game as "Conquer the Galaxy" will be launched soon.
After the final closed beta testing, "Conquer the Galaxy" was formally launched without doing a public test, showing Weiyu's confidence in this game.
Because of the promotion's success, the game drew a huge number of players almost immediately after it was released. The massive and realistic scenes, and other contents, are truly amazing, allowing all players to experience what it's like to live in the intergalactic age.
He Lang had remained on the sidelines while the company did the testing. He didn't expect Jing Yang to create such a powerful game. He thought that if Jing Yang did not cooperate with their company and instead stayed in Xi Sheng or collaborated with other companies, it would be a significant loss for Weiyu as well as a major threat.
He was still puzzled as to why Jing Yang had not created such a game while in Xi Sheng, but then he realized it could be because Xi Sheng was not totally under his control. If he created such a game, it would be partially controlled by someone he despised, so he would just wait till he left before creating it.
As the game server grows larger, there are more and more players, and their response is also excellent. So far, there are no technical issues or bugs in this game. The plot and characters are both quite appealing. Even if it is arranged in a movie, it is in the level of excellence that can draw a large audience.
According to the players, the game features a lot of amusing and vivid components, as well as a lot of different products and equipment, a lot of different jobs, and a lot of different growth techniques. The fight combo moves are highly lifelike, and there is a complete legion competition mechanism, making it simple for everyone to participate.
Xi Rui also wanted to play the game, even if he knew that he didn't want to become one of the game's addicts. In the gaming scenes, there is an unmistakable sense of familiarity and nostalgia. He feels a heartbreaking emotion every time a mission or combat fails. Even though he is in such pain, he refuses to stop the game, believing that if he does not succeed, he will feel even more pain.
Xi Rui had no idea if other players shared his feelings, or how Jing Yang was able to pull off such a feat.
In reality, while other players think the game is entertaining and lifelike, no one feels as strongly as Xi Rui. Of course, there is a reason behind this.
For several days, Xi Rui hasn't shown up at work. Wen Zhu and Xi Guangshan both knew he was trying to figure out the game, and he had been keeping himself locked up in his room.
Initially, Xi Guangshan thought his son understood the principle: If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles[1]. It gave him great pleasure, and he knew his son was on the verge of success. However, Xi Rui has reached a point where he is unable to sleep or eat. He does not sleep at night or day and eating food must be done under supervision; otherwise, he will not eat if the food was simply left there.
Xi Guangshan and Wen Zhu would occasionally open the door and peer inside. Xi Rui's face was unsightly and filthy. They're not sure if it was because he hadn't bathed in several days, but his face was dull and haggard, as if it had been coated in ashes.
In such a situation, Xi Guangshan and Wen Zhu had reason to be concerned.
T/N [1] : from Sun Tzu <The Art of War> : “If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”; meaning knowing yourself and your enemy will lead to victory.
I can't quite figure it out what's going on with Xi Rui's case. He's likely the same soul every world, and in theory he should be the winner of life, but it seems more like he's being punished. It's hard to say why he's also transmigrating.
ReplyDeleteAnother thing about him, I can't understand his mix of emotions while looking at the game/painting representing his past lives. It would make sense for him to feel sad, scared, regretful, but excited? Why would he be happy and sad at once?
Maybe he's trapped in those worlds and unconciously he's happy that he's getting closer to leaving, but that's just my theory.
