Chapter 118 Rainy Night
Fina was right, the downpour quickly swept across the town of Sur.
There was no star in the night. It was so dark that not a single spark could be seen.
Everything was like a silent movie slowly moving, bright silver lightning shuttled above the cloud top suddenly illuminated the whole town.
Boom!
After a short moment, the deafening thunder came.
Because it was located at the foot of the towering Sur Mountains and surrounded by the endless plain terrain, the thunder felt in Sur Town was more intense, as if the earth was shaking, shaking people's hearts, making people experience the true might of nature.
The big raindrops poured onto the grassland, and the howling wind blew past. The deep pasture under the night was like a raging tide, with waves of turbulence after another, showing a terrifying scene.
In the storm, this tower on the hill was teetering like a candle flame in the wind.
Reiner was lying on the sofa, watching the raindrops hitting the window, but couldn't sleep at all.
There was no guest room in Dana’s house, and his father’s room was too messy, so she could only ask Reiner to sleep on the sofa in the living room. Reiner didn’t care much about this. Even though Dana offered to let him sleep in her own bed, Reiner still politely refused.
The patter of rain echoed in his ears, but Reiner's mind was filled with what he saw and heard today.
In this picturesque field, there was such a group of ignorant people. They hated magic, hated mages, and were unwilling to accept anything new. For ten or even a hundred years, they repeated primitive and ancient life.
According to Fina, even the hospital was forcibly constructed by the lord of this area. The town of Sur was located on the border of the kingdom and was next to the uninhabited Sur Mountains. The annual tax revenue was very small, even the local nobles also didn't bother to manage it. Once there was a mage who kindly installed magic irrigation devices on the fields here, but they were immediately dismantled by the townspeople and sold for money. The town also celebrated with the sold money.
Later, in the second year, Sur town suffered a severe drought. Conventional irrigation methods could not meet the requirements of farmland and pasture, which directly caused most of the livestock in the town to die of thirst. They began to complain about Fina's father for not stopping them from removing the irrigation device.
This resentment was even passed on to Fina. She still remembered that she didn't even dare to go out on weekdays at that time, because the children in the town would pull her into some corners to punch and kick her as soon as they saw Fina. Some older boys even wanted to ra** her. But they were stopped by their parents.
However, Fina overheard that the reason the parents of those children prevented the atrocities was not to protect Fina. They told their kids that her body carried disease. If they touched her, their boys would begin to rot.
Thinking of this, Reiner felt sick in his stomach.
When he read novels in the past, he had seen some descriptions of ignorant people in some backward areas, but Reiner only thought that it was a fiction of art, and real human beings would not be so stupid.
But now, in Fina's hometown, he had finally seen how stupid humans could be.
Reiner didn't want to change all of this, but at least, he had to make his students feel at ease.
Amidst all the thoughts, sleepiness gradually emerged and enveloped Reiner.
The rain was still falling, and Reiner had gradually closed his eyes and fell asleep.
......
The air after the rain was always exceptionally fresh, and early the next morning, Reiner was awakened by a sizzling noise.
He opened his eyes, sat up, patted his face lightly to wake himself up. He then searched for the source of the sound, only to find that Fina was wearing an apron and busy by the stove.
It made him feel like being at home, but Fina's role as a wife or mother was still open to question.
Reiner suddenly had this strange thought. He bypassed some of the unorganized manuscripts on the floor, went to the bathroom, briefly washed his face, and returned to the living room. Then he found that two plates of fried eggs and bacon were ready.
"There is nothing to eat at home, I only found these."
Fina said apologetically. Not only did she let the guests sleep on the sofa, but she also couldn't bring out any good things to entertain Reiner, which made her feel a little sorry.
"It's okay. I have experienced worse conditions than this."
Reiner didn't say that when he was still the poorest student on earth, he lived on the free soup, rice, and chili pickles in the school cafeteria. The breakfast before him was enough to be called a hearty meal.
"Today we have to go to the hospital again, right?"
Reiner ate half an egg and then asked. The doctor in charge happened to be out when they passed by yesterday, so today they had to go to the hospital again to confirm the condition.
"Mhm, Uncle Philip went to the neighboring town to buy medicine yesterday. He should be back today."
Fina nodded. The Uncle Philip in her mouth was the doctor of Sur Town, a first-ring mage, and it was this Uncle Philip who persuaded Fina's father to allow her to enter Luna Nova Magical Academy to study. It could be said that this was the person who treated Fina the nicest.
The two briefly ate breakfast, sat for a while, and then left the tower to go to the hospital.
There were many puddles on the road, reflecting the sunlight. Looking around, the green and vast grassland was washed by the rain, and the colors were exceptionally gorgeous.
This place indeed had an enchanting view, but once Reiner thought of the residents here, he was no longer in the mood to appreciate it anymore.
They walked along the path. On the grass not far away, a man on a horse was driving the cattle and sheep out of the pen. He glanced at Fina, showing a look of contempt, and then turned his head and left.
There had been people going out in the town one after another. Most people frowned when they saw Fina, but they didn't say anything. Instead, three young people who looked like they were in their early twenties approached and blocked Fina and Reiner.
"Witch, I heard that your father is dying."
The young man who seemed to be the leader said disdainfully.
"It turns out that the mages would also die? I thought they were all monsters."
A young man next to him followed and glanced at Fina's body up and down with greedy eyes.
These young people who were in their adolescence had nowhere to vent their sexual desires. The conservative towns would not allow those special industries to enter the town, so they could only use some other methods to vent it.
Facing such provocation, Fina turned a blind eye to the leader young man.
"Step aside!"
"Oh, I'm so scared, I heard that you learned magic, are you going to burn me to death?"
The young man took a step back, pretending to be scared, and then looked at Reiner next to Fina and said maliciously.
"Who is this again? Your new sugar daddy? Mhm, he is very young. He must be great in bed..."
Before the man had finished speaking, Fina had already stretched out her hand, and a bright crimson flame ignited on her hand.
