Driver of The Beautiful CEO - Chapter 67: Distance

Others may not have understood the meaning behind Zhou Ming’s actions, but Liu Yanbo could already see all the repercussions it would bring in the future.

After Liu Yanbo received his phone back, he turned it on and saw more than a dozen missed call notifications, among the callers were Yin Hanruo, Lin Xue, Ji Ruyan, and even Bai Bin that was thousands of miles away called him twice. In addition to these missed calls, there was also an SMS notification from the bank, reminding him that a new deposit of 5300 yuan was added to his salary card.

Yuntong Taxi was a state-owned transportation company. With the salary of a month's work plus a performance commission and some bonuses such as the full attendance award, it was indeed possible for Liu Yanbo to receive about 5000 yuan as his salary.

Getting paid was supposed to be a happy thing, but he couldn't be happy, because today was not a payday.

Yuntong Taxi Company always settled the last month's salary on the first day of each month.

There were only two possibilities for a company to pay a salary in advance, one was when the worker requested to get it in advance, and the other was when the company wanted to fire you.

Liu Yanbo didn’t request a salary advance this month, so only the second possibility remained, he was fired.

Driving a taxi wasn’t necessarily a very honorable job, and it was very tiring, but Liu Yanbo liked it very much.

Jobs could be found everywhere, but it wasn’t easy to find a job you liked.

Since he was arrested by Zhou Ming in front of his colleagues in the company, Liu Yanbo has been mentally prepared to be dismissed, but at this moment, he couldn’t help but feel some helplessness in his heart.

Liu Yanbo put away his cell phone, looked at Pan Yuyi, who was burning with anger, and said in a flat voice: "Officers if there’s nothing else, then I’ll be going."

Pan Yuyi unpleasantly said: "You’ll be going? Who said you could go? Be good and wait here. The City Council’s task force will send someone to ask you a few questions."

After saying that, Pan Yuyi glared at Zhou Ming: "What are you doing standing around?! Why haven’t you gone to get rid of those reporters already? When the director comes back from his meeting, do you want him to be blocked at the door by a mob of reporters?"

After giving her orders, Pan Yuyi angrily stomped into the interrogation room and sat down on the interrogator’s chair with her arms crossed, pulling her face as if the whole world owed her money.

Did this woman eat gunpowder?*

*Chinese expression which means having a bad attitude and irritable speech, such as swearing for no reason.

Liu Yanbo and Zhou Ming looked at each other speechless for a long time. Similar to two wooden men, without a clue of what to do.

Seeing that they had not moved for a long time, Pan Yuyi scrunched her eyebrows and reprimanded: "Zhou Ming, you still didn’t go?!"

“Yes, ma’am!” Zhou Ming hurriedly nodded. When he was about to leave, he gave Liu Yanbo a threatening glance.

Liu Yanbo nodded to show he understood.

To be honest, even if Zhou Ming didn't do all he did today, Liu Yanbo would still have kept a long distance from Pan Yuyi, because he didn't want a situation similar to that of Tianshui bar to ever happen again in the future.

Although Liu Yanbo didn't plan to accept Ji Ruyan as his mistress, and he didn't have any feelings for her at all, he understood how good she was to him.

A tendency to care for people who were good to them was a normal human reaction.

Liu Yanbo was a man who didn't have any principles to speak of, but he still had a little bit of humanity.

After Zhou Ming left, the atmosphere in the interrogation room became a little dull. Liu Yanbo leaned against the wall, absentmindedly turning his lighter on and off with two fingers.

Pan Yuyi glanced at him, knocked on the table, and said, "Liu Yanbo, sit down here. I want to talk to you."

Liu Yanbo didn’t refuse and slowly walked to the seat facing her, lowered his head and then continued playing with his lighter without saying a word.

"Liu Yanbo, thank you for last night." Thinking about last night, Pan Yuyi was a little embarrassed. After all, it was the first time she had been drunk outside of her home, and it was also the first time a man had carried her to a hotel room.

In response to Pan Yuyi's sincere gratitude, Liu Yanbo just gently let out a "Mmhm". It was very dull, or in other words, indifferent.

Pan Yuyi had a lot of nerve, but she wasn’t stupid.

Before when Liu Yanbo encountered her, most of the time he always gave her talkative and exaggerated responses. Although there were occasional signs that he was avoiding her, it had never been so obvious as today. Not only was it obvious, but it also seemed to contain an element of disgust.

She could feel his sudden indifference.

Pan Yuyi thought for a moment and frowned. "Are you angry about what I said to Ji Ruyan last night?"

"Yes." Liu Yanbo lifted his head and said very seriously, "Captain Pan, I don't know if you were simply curious or if you had other intentions in mind, but did you have to ask Boss Ji that question on that occasion? You're a woman, too. You should know how hurtful that is, don’t you? Besides, you don't have any deep grudges against her, so there was no need to be so severe, was there?"

Liu Yanbo's tone was very smooth, but somehow, Pan Yuyi felt that it was particularly harsh. She didn't like how obvious he was taking that woman’s side.

She answered coldly: "I am an officer, and she’s involved in the mafia. Yes I don’t hold any personal grudges against her, but it’s an officer’s responsibility to fight crime."

"I know." Liu Yanbo was surprisingly calm. He slowly took a cigarette out of his pocket and said: "Captain Pan, it’s not my intention to be a peacemaker between you and her. Last night, you did that mostly because of me, didn’t you? I know that in Jiu Ye’s murder case I’m the one you suspect the most, so I hope-- No. I'm earnestly asking you. No matter what methods you use in the future, please apply them to me, and don't involve anyone else, okay?"

"It's my business what method I use to investigate the case, and it isn’t your position to teach me, is it?" Pan Yuyi said furiously, "can't I suspect that Ji Ruyan might be involved too? If you care so much, just admit that you did it!"

Strictly speaking, this was the first time she had expressed such serious anger at Liu Yanbo.

Although Liu Yanbo's tone was very polite, the meaning between the lines was too hurtful.

Who do you think I am?

An unscrupulous old witch?

This stung Pan Yuyi's self-esteem and insulted her sacred profession.

Ever since she was small, her life sailed smoothly with the wind. Whether it was because of her family background, or her own accomplishments, in all her life, she was surrounded by people who applauded her.

She was as proud as a princess, so how could she tolerate Liu Yanbo’s hidden mockery?

She couldn’t stand it, and she wouldn’t.

Liu Yanbo didn't seem to expect Pan Yuyi to get so angry. He shook his head and said with a wry smile, "forget I said anything."

"You already said it." Pan Yuyi's expression was cold.

The two didn’t speak anymore, and the atmosphere became particularly depressing for a moment, just like the cold season, even the air became chilly…

After smoking a cigarette, Liu Yanbo suddenly smiled.

The smile was as bright as the sun. But just like the sun, it felt very distant. And it was so bright that it was almost unpleasant to the eyes.

"Then let’s talk some more!" Liu Yanbo smiled and said in a hurry, "Captain Pan, the next time we meet, I hope you’ll just be a police officer and me, a suspect."

An officer and a suspect were opposed to each other, separated by an abyss.

A very long distance.

Far enough to stay out of touch forever~
