Who was Ji Ruyan?
She was Haishi’s underworld queen. Not only was she rich and powerful but she also had a great beauty that few could rival.
There were naturally many rumors about her in the underworld, and whether they were true or not, almost all of them pictured her as a goddess, an intangible treasure desired by many, but never to be obtained.
Who would believe such a notable woman as she was willing to be a mistress for an unknown, ordinary taxi driver?
Pan Yuyi certainly didn’t.
So she completely disregarded the location and occasion and didn’t even care about what kind of trouble it could bring to Liu Yanbo and Ji Ruyan if others heard. She just wanted to use the “ridiculous joke” she had heard to ignite some flames and possibly get one step closer to achieving her goal.
But what she didn't expect was that the “ridiculous joke” she had heard was actually true.
Not only did Ji Ruyan admit it, but she also didn’t hesitate. She just generously confessed, not caring if there were any people around, and not even lowering her voice.
It was fortunate that the bystanders didn't hear, otherwise, there wouldn't even be a need to wait until the next day, before the gossip spread throughout the entire city. It was very likely that its influence would even overshadow Jiu Ye’s death, becoming the number one gossip topic after dinner.
It was simply unbelievable!
Pan Yu Yi still hadn’t recovered from her shock. Her mouth opened, wanting to speak again, but no words could come out.
Pan Yuyi recovered from the shock, his mouth opened, and he stopped talking.
Before asking, Pan Yuyi had already thought out a set of extra questions. As long as Ji Ruyan denied it, or tried to change the subject, she would continue to provoke the topic.
But now, what could she say besides silence?
Her previous sharp words had become meaningless. Why bother saying anything?
Liu Yanbo also wanted to say something, but he had never been the type that could easily express his emotions through words.
In the end, he didn’t speak but gave a meaningful look to Ji Ruyan. There was a very subtle glint of warmness in his dark, black eyes, and they were no longer so dull and distant.
Ji Ruyan took a sip of wine. She seemed to be satisfied with what she had just done. Her gentle smile revealed happiness, very different from her usual charming and glamorous appearance, making people feel warm just by seeing it.
None of the three of them spoke again, so they sat quietly and drank.
The conversation, which had been filled with hostility, ended somewhat inexplicably.
...
Pan Yuyi was drunk.
Despite having low alcohol tolerance, she still drank an entire bottle of whiskey by herself, which had already made her very dizzy. If she hadn’t leaned on Liu Yanbo at that time, she would’ve been lying on the floor.
Liu Yanbo had drunk the most, but he was in the best state, not at all drunk. After drinking the remaining wine in his glass, he turned his head to look at Ji Ruyan, and said with a different and gentle tone: "Boss Ji, I should go now.”
"Un~" Ji Ruyan nodded, her slightly drunk face didn't express a desire for him to stay.
She could feel that Liu Yanbo's attitude towards herself had changed. This was already a big breakthrough, and she was very satisfied.
Although she had accepted Liu Yanbo in her heart, Ji Ruyan actually didn't want to make progress too fast. She hoped to slowly understand him better and discover more of his qualities.
"Wine...I want more wine..." Pan Yuyi leaned on Liu Yanbo's shoulder, shaking the empty wine glass in her hand feebly, and complaining: "I don't want to go home. Liu Yanbo, you big bastard…”
Ji Ruyan glanced at Pan Yuyi, who babbled a few words of nonsense from time to time, and asked in a rather thoughtful manner, "What are you going to do with this woman?"
Pan Yuyi wasn’t friendly to her, so she likewise had no good attitude towards the female officer.
Just as the old saying goes: “Good and evil opposed each other, a gangster would never be compatible with an officer”.
Although this sentence was biased, it wasn’t entirely unreasonable.
An officer with a strong sense of justice would never tolerate the existence of any evil forces.
In the same way, a gangster would never like a policeman whose life revolves around fighting criminals. After all, no matter how principled you were, every person had always done something nasty in their life.
So, the fact that Ji Ruyan and Pan Yuyi didn't like each other didn't really have much to do with them personally, it was just because of their identities.
Liu Yanbo could tell that the two women were at odds with each other. It was likely that if he said he would leave Pan Yuyi behind like this, Ji Ruyan would probably raise her hands in approval without hesitation. He couldn’t help but smile bitterly, "What else can I do? I’ll just have to call her family and have them pick her up, or I'll have to take her home myself."
After saying that, Liu Yanbo thought for a moment. He really didn't want to deal with her father, who was Haishi’s Security Department Leader, so he sighed again: "Forget it! I'll find a hotel nearby for her to stay for a night."
"Why don't you leave her with me?" Ji Ruyan suggested: "Just let her stay in the bedroom inside my office for a night, save you all that trouble."
"No need, there’s a hotel nearby anyway, it's only a few steps away, besides..." Liu Yanbo got up and put Pan Yuyi on his back. "This woman isn’t the rule-abiding officer you’d expect. If you let her stay in your office and she wakes up drunk in the middle of the night, it's very likely that she’ll turn your office upside down."
Being reminded by him, Ji Ruyan was taken aback for a while, before saying, "I had forgotten about this."
As enemies in identity, living, and working in the same city, she and Pan Yuyi had some understanding of each other.
It wasn’t very shocking to hear this from Liu Yanbo, seeing Pan Yuyi's style of conduct, it was very possible that she’d do just that.
Although Ji Ruyan's office didn't have any particularly important documents, secret files, or anything like that, there were some things that really weren't suitable for a police officer to see.
For example, the pistol under the pillow.
"Let’s go." After taking a few steps, Liu Yanbo suddenly turned back to look at Ji Ruyan, who was following him, and said, "By the way, didn't you say that someone wanted to see me? Set a day and time and I’ll meet that person with you."
"What?" Ji Ruyan didn't react for a moment, staring at Liu Yanbo in a daze for a long time before she remembered what he was talking about. "Don't force yourself if you don't want to go, it's okay."
"I’m not forcing myself. It's nice to meet new people once in a while." Liu Yanbo smiled and said, "Let me know when the time is set."
"Okay." Ji Ruyan pursed her delicate red lips and a beautiful smile bloomed on her face.
There were some words that didn't need to be said explicitly to understand what it meant.
From refusing without even considering it in the beginning to now deciding to go without hesitation, his attitude changed so much. And who else could it be that caused this?
It was certainly not because of the person who wanted to see him, after all, Liu Yanbo had never asked who the other party was.
Moreover, according to Ji Ruyan's own investigation, he had never been a person who enjoyed making friends.
He's doing it for me! Ji Ruyan said thought happily.
Liu Yanbo left.
Surprisingly, no one came out to stop him, and although the disguised agents stared at him for a long time in the crowd, they never took a step closer.
The person who helped Liu Yanbo take Pan Yuyi to the hotel was Wang Yingying. On the way, she joked: "Have you been blessed with the peach blossom luck* lately?"
*luck with the opposite sex
"I just hope it's not a peach blossom curse." Liu Diabo helplessly smiled.
Wang Yingying concluded, "Whether it's peach blossom luck or a peach blossom curse, some kind of peach blossom is certainly attached to you."
Thanks for the chapter!
