Driver of The Beautiful CEO - Chapter 44: I'll Become a Toad

In the past three years, Liu Yanbo had lived at peace with the rest of the city’s people.

When he first came to the city, since he wasn’t familiar with the land, he encountered a lot of troubles and difficulties. But Liu Yanbo always dealt with them in an almost cowardly way.

For example, the last thing a man could tolerate was to get cheated on, but he put up with it. At best, he was patient. But at worst, he was a loser.

If Lin Xue hadn’t gotten hurt, and if he was the one who had been slapped by Xue long, he probably would have just accepted it.

No one but himself knew why he was such a coward, just as no one knew what he experienced three years ago.

He was as humble as dust, but this was the ordinary life he wanted.

In his knowledge, in the world ruled by the law of the jungle, ordinary people had to face all kinds of ridicule, and they had to learn to be patient to endure it.

The incident in Tianshui Bar had those who already knew Liu Yanbo very confused. And he never explained to them.

He was like a clown, sitting in a corner, surrounded by the strange gazes of people around.

He tried his best to live the life of ordinary people. But did ordinary people live the same way he did?

No. Ordinary citizens would, of course, encounter all kinds of difficulties and troubles. They’d tolerate it as long as it wasn’t too excessive. But no one would tolerate and retreat the same way Liu Yanbo would- without a bottom line.

His heartless way of living was simply terrible.

For three years, this had been how Liu Yanbo lived most of his life.

Of course, he had a bottom line sometimes, for example- One time, during a dark and windy night, he struck someone who had attacked Han Feiyan.

He also cursed at a few aunts in broad daylight for Han Feiyan. As well as angrily broke other people’s teeth because they abused his parents.

It seemed that Liu Yanbo only ever acted for the people he cherished, and never cared for himself.

Bai Bin especially was the one Liu Yanbo absolutely wouldn’t tolerate anyone to lay a finger on.

Before coming tonight, Liu Yanbo just wanted to ask Ji Ruyan for some information on Jiu Ye, and that way, he could better prepare himself. But now, he planned to kill Jiu Ye.

He believed that as long as Jiu Ye died, he would eliminate the potential threat to him and Lin Xue. And Bai Bin wouldn’t have to get involved just to keep Lin Xue’s brother’s promise.

This kind of thinking was no longer paranoid, but extreme.

Unfortunately, this extreme method was the only way he could think of, and it was the simple method that he was most familiar with.

Once he had made up his mind, Liu Yanbo was no longer interested in chatting. He got up and said, "then congratulations, Boss Ji, on successfully surviving the crisis. I have something to do, so I won't bother you here anymore."

After waiting for a long time, all she got was an insincere remark. Ji Ruyan's eyes twitched.

Did this guy come here just to eat and drink?

"Wait a minute." Ji Ruyan stopped Liu Yanbo, got up, and walked in front of him.

"Weren’t you looking for me to ask something?"

"Yes, I was." Liu Yanbo nodded. He pretended to think for a while, scratched his head, and said: "I drank too much, I forgot."

You bastard...

If the previous remark was insincere, this one was just shameless.

A person could easily drink several bottles of white wine, had just two glasses of red wine, and says he drank too much?

No one would believe his excuse.

What a f****** joke!

As the saying goes, even a rotten ship has its cannons*.

Footnote: [Even something ragged/nearly broken has its worth if there's something of value still attached to it]

Although Ji Ruyan wasn’t as powerful as before, she was still a famous eldest sister in the city, so could she lose her temper?

At ordinary times, or if it were someone else, she would’ve had such an ungrateful fellow thrown out immediately.

Ji Ruyan was unhappy, and quietly said, "Do you hate being with me that much?"

Did he hate it?

Not really. Liu Yanbo just didn’t want to get involved with her too much, it wasn’t aimed at her as a person.

As long as it was a person with an overly complicated identity or background, Liu Yanbo would always avoid them. He didn’t want to get involved with such people.

Yin Hanruo was an accident.

Liu Yanbo had hoped that an accident like that wouldn’t repeat.

"I told you, I'm a toad who doesn't want a swan." Liu Yanbo grinned and laughed at himself, "It's important for a person to have self-knowledge. It took me a while before I understood that.”

A dragon gives birth to a dragon, a phoenix gives birth to a phoenix, the son of a mouse will know how to make holes, and the son of a turtle will hide in his shell when threatened.*

*footnote: [If you're born that way then you're like that. It's in your blood and you can't change it.]

In life, we can have dreams and ambitions, and we can continuously motivate ourselves to move forward, but we must first find out where we’re at.

Do not bully the young and poor. In thirty years, a river can change its direction of flow from east to west.*

*Footnote: [Do not bully young people just because they're poor, because just like a river can change direction in thirty years, they might become successful in the future.]

This saying was true. But it didn’t apply to all young people.

In this world, how many were actually capable of rising to the sky?

In the end, most of these grandiose words became jokes.

It was better to keep your feet on the ground than aim farther than you can reach. Self-knowledge was a virtue.

Liu Yanbo was a taxi driver. Regardless of what he concealed, his current identity wasn’t worthy of Yin Hanruo or Ji Ruyan.

He knew this better than anyone.

Even if Ji Ruyan had no other intentions, and simply wanted to meet, he still wouldn’t have agreed, because the gap between them was too great, and their positions would never be the same.

Liu Yanbo wasn’t at the age in which the impossible seemed possible anymore. It wasn’t that gave up trying, it was just that he had already walked by those paths.

He once believed in fairytales, but fairytales were lies. His princess ran away with someone else.

He once was an ambitious teenager. He wanted to change his fate on his own, but the outcome became worse.

He was tired.

Now, he just wanted to live peacefully as a toad; a toad who didn’t desire a swan.

Did he get what he wanted?

In this world, things go wrong.

Ji Ruyan insisted further, and slowly said, "Then I’ll become a toad, and I’ll accompany you to the smelly pond for the rest of my life."

"Why?" Liu Yanbo took two steps back. He couldn't figure out what was the purpose of Ji Ruyan's persistence?

More importantly--

"Didn't you and Jiu Ye already call it a truce? Maybe you could even cooperate in the future. By then, what use am I to you?" Liu Yanbo finally let out the questions on his mind.

"I can never call a truce with that old thing, let alone cooperate sincerely. Either he dies or I do." Ji Ruyan clenched her fist, her voice was terrible and low. "because he’s my enemy. He’s the murderer who killed my father."

The hatred she felt because of her father’s murder would never allow her to live peacefully while she lived in the same world as Jiu Ye.

She was not only willing to betray her feelings and sell her body, but also willing to sell her soul.

She had tried many times and even hired a world-class killer, but her opponent was too powerful, and every assassination was a failure.

Just when she was about to despair, just when she thought that she would never get her revenge in this life--

Liu Yanbo appeared.

At first, she just wanted to find the group of people behind him, but she didn't expect that the real surprise was him.

She didn't know how strong his skills were, but at least he was better than the masters she had seen before.

Just like she was drowning, when a straw appeared, who wouldn’t clutch it?

"I’ve said before, as long as someone is willing to help me kill that old thing, I can give him anything." Ji Ruyan took a step further, staring at Liu Yanbo. "If a woman helps me kill him, I’ll give her whatever she wishes. If a man helps me kill him, I’ll be his woman, even a slave if he wants."

Liu Yanbo did not retreat, nor did he speak anymore.

What could he even say?

If it were him, he would do the same.

Liu Yanbo lit a cigarette, avoided Ji Ruyan's gaze, and walked past her to the door.

Ji Ruyan was stunned. She bit her red lips tightly, not letting herself cry.

She dug out her heart and lungs but all she got was his disregard. Was he stingy with his words?

He really is ruthless!

"Boss Ji, remember to add more chili next time you cook." When he got to the door, Liu Yanbo suddenly turned around and smiled.

Killing people was illegal. Liu Yanbo wasn’t stupid enough to reveal his plans to another.
