Webnovel may have done some scummy things in the past, but in this case, they are doing the right thing, translator makes money, they (and the original author, I'd presume) make money...

Support the author at least, you get better stories that way.

Let take my country as an example of how much it is to buy the dam coins of qidia, 1 dollar is 53 pesos in my country and 53 pesos is 53-55 qidia coins...... simple absurd. qidia is giving the same value to they coins as my COUNTRY to buy some ...am telling you guys SOME chapters not the book or half the chapters of monthly realese they give you coin so you give to other author and if you don't use it in certain months then they disappear.
Sorry for the rant but before you go to qidia you should go with only 1 or 2 novel in mind because the fastpass only work for a few novel and not all novels ...(the fastpass have a time limit too)

And for another 2-5 month (of total 4-7 month) it’s DEAD NOVEL for all old readers, and it’s not fact that I come back in 4-7 month at all (not because it’s a bad novel, but because I’ll forget about it), I will read another novels...

Bro I forget almost all novels that don published weekly if it were not for my bookmarks I would forget the name of atless half of them since they are translated title like Sekai Ene ..and like that ...I know this is foul play but I recommend (Azarinth Healer | Royal Road) from RR it's good one for all that don't know it.

I kind of think they get off over screwing people over. The only explanation that seems to make sense is that they get some kind of sick pleasure out of this kind of stuff.
DeleteIt makes sense from a marketing perspective for them to have the novel not instantly drop 700 chapters but let's say 50 chapters a week:
Deletea) new readers won't see an insane immidiate paywall to catch up on the novel
b) they WILL however see a high content delivery
c) the chapters will get comments, votes, etc. if you binge smth you don't stop to read the comments of a chapter unless there's some big reveal or twist, but if you have 5 daily chapters you'll go to the comment section at the 5th. Also people will use their daily stuff to vote for the novel
d) people that log in daily to check the novel's update are more likely to check other novels after their daily dose than people binging till they stop reading for the day
HOWEVER the long term readers of the novel are dropping off as they need to wait a long hiatus, potentially forgetting the novel or missing the time it's catched up and now see a paywall
New readers will be hard to come by as the novel was already attracting people that like similiar stuff and those won't be on webnovel to reread it all behind a paywall
I'll check the blog till we have a link to bookmark on webnovel and then try to spam it some daily free stuff but yeah, there's a good chance quidian may not see the return they hoped for - which would result in them cutting loses and dropping it. And as the previous commentor said: the author probably has no say (you did see him wanting to instantly drop all 700 chaps and having to correct it)
I've been following this novel since the start kinda bummer that webnovel did this again but i guess there's no choice, It was a fun ride but i guess i'll drop this for now and read others, shame there will be 1 less novel that I have to read everyday.

ReplyDeleteDon't get the hate on Webnovel. They own the stories and want to make money off it. Which is normal. If you want to support the Translator and Author go to their site. If you just want your fix there are MULTIPLE sites that have stolen almost all the stories on Webnovel. Just Google it, they are easy to find. Like wuxiaworld don't know if the translation site and pirate site are own by the same person but both are call wuxiaworld.
ReplyDeletePersonally I think Webnovel is great. There are many stories that wouldn't have translators without them. You can sample the free chapters of new novels and if you like it you will find the "paywall" to be paper thin. You can make multiple account or just go to a pirate site.
The hate is earned. They continuously shut down and bully good translators if they catch a hint that they can make money on something, whether they had a previous agreement with them or not, or whether it was their work originally or not. They have no quality control on their translations. When they can't scare a translator into shutting down, they will copy and paste the translators hard work to catch up with them, and then start pushing out crappy translations at a fast pace so people that want to know what happens next will leave the original translator.
DeleteDid I mention their huge legal battle with Wuxiaworld? Before quidan decided to enter the translation market the owner of Wuxiaworld was all like, "I want to translate some of your stories, and I know I don't have to, but to keep things clean I want to give you some money to get the english rights to some stories." Quidan agreed. They wrote up a contract and everything. Then when quidan decided to start the translation business themselves, first they tried to shut down Wuxiaworld, then they tried to copy and paste the Wuxiaworld stories, and got in a huge legal battle over both. As a matter of fact, I just checked, and the stories they stole are still there.
So yea. Quidan, or "webnovel" as they want to be called now, is a scourge on the translation community. They do everything they can to ruin it for personal profit, and they don't get a fraction of the hate they deserve.

ReplyDeleteIt's not like the translator had much choice. Once webnovel sets their sites on someone they tend to screw you over hard of you don't join them. I seriously doubt Wuxiaworld could do anything to help with things even if they wanted to, and they've made a practice to steer clear of webnovel ever since their legal battles started.
